I usually just vote Labour blindly regardless of the type of election and would love to say, I’m abstaining, this Labour doesn’t represent me anymore blah blah etc, truth is, I went to work at six this morning and am going out on the piss in Brighton straight from work so the opportunity won’t arise.

So if I voted or spoilt my ballot paper do you think it will stop the police being run by a politician ? I'd rather not vote than be complicit in the corruption.

Not today, in Wales it’s just the police commissioner election so utterly irrelevant.

It used to be that the person running the local police was selected by a cross section of local councillors. Politics still involved I grant you but in my eyes a more balanced way of doing it. KB claims THOUSANDS in salary just for toeing the party line and achievng diddy squat.

I'm not sure there is anything you can do to make yourself feel virtuous here, if you disagree with the principle of the public electing these people :shrug:

Yes, I always make a point of a smile and a laugh with them. And also remember my photo ID (which adds to their workload and is a pointless burden for them).

My son turned 18 a couple of weeks ago and the first vote opportunity he gets is for local Police Commissioner. I fear it will turn him off elections for life.

I'm intrigued to know the turnout of 18-25s for the local Police Commissioner election. Is it as high as 1%?

Outlines the role of the PCC as follows;

Police and Crime Commissioners are locally elected to secure efficient and effective policing. They have a legal duty to consult with victims in setting the policing priorities in their area and to hold the Chief Constable of the police in their area to account. They are responsible for commissioning many of the services that support victims outlined in this Code.

Bit odd to see how little attention is then paid to the victims of crime in some of these election statements, as commissioning services is an area where they can specifically make a difference. Vague statements around cutting crime, are only effective in Gotham City.
