Probably the proverbial storm in a teacup (as always) however;

"America's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reportedly issued its first severe solar storm warning since 2005 yesterday as a huge geomagnetic storm races towards Earth - meaning it could be the most powerful experienced in almost two decades.”

According to various sauces, Internet and high frequency radio, and GPS service could be interrupted in some areas and magnetic changes could effect migrating birds and marine animals like whales that navigate using magnetic fields, possibly leading to beaching.

Northern Lights could be visible from many places in UK.

I shall keep any eye on the sky this evening but not holding my breath for anything spectacular.

That explains the minke whale I found in my front room this morning then.

This is exactly how humanity as we know it will end. It’s only a matter of time before a solar storm sends us back to the dark ages.

Apparently the biggest solar flares since the Carrington Event in 1859 when the developed worlds population wasnt entirely dependant on electricity. Back then it took out telegraph systems so could cause havoc potentially. I'm off to buy some bog roll.

In the event of the internet going down, @Bozza has initiated the standing procedures to transition NSC to a state of DEFCON 2.

(DEFCON 2 is the same as DEFCON 1, except The Thread full of Beautiful Ladies, Part II is printed off and laminated).
In such an event NSC goes analogue with people meeting in person to talk about football.

Its either the Chinese or the Russians fault

If they say it's not them, then it MUST be the inevitable step up from Global Warming, we are now entering Universe Warming.

no significant activity 16.36.

I’ll let you know if I get a yellow warning. It needs to be red to see the aurora.
