[Other Sport] Official NFL Thread 2024/25 🏈

Meh draft. We (Cleveland) sat out the first round, and took a Defensive Tackle (Mike Hall) in the 2nd round as our first pick. Our next pick in the 3rd round was a Right Guard, Zak Zinter, - who I believe is currently injured (broken leg). Jeez. I don't pretend to completely understand why...

    [News] Gudrun Ure RIP

Bit of musical trivia: I do believe the theme song was written by Phil Coulter and Bill Martin. They wrote a stream of 60s/70s hits: Puppet on a String, Congratulations and Shang-a-Lang spring to mind. And despite the fact that one was Scottish and one was Irish (can't remember which was which)...

[Football] Football rumour - Erik ten Hag will be sacked at end of season

In some ways they're like the United I grew up with in the 1970s. After Mat Busby retired and before Fergie they had a succession of managers and won nothing except the odd FA Cup - and they got relegated in that time as well. (Which I can't see happening in this era of Haves and Have Nots). The...

    [Brighton] Seagulls win national award

Rubbish. Unless there IS a fish called an Oak-ay.

[Albion] Adam Lallana **Leaving Summer 2024**

Yes, I've been scratching my head over that one. He wants to be with his family in Bournemouth, he'll be spending a lot of time in Bournemouth and presumably he'll want to play for a club in or near Bournemouth. This means he'll probably end up at ...... nope, nothing springs to mind. Poole...

    [Brighton] Seagulls win national award

Blimey, those are fantastic. I have zero artistic talent and find drawing anything more complex than a stick man to be completely beyond me - even painting by numbers I find a bit challenging keeping all the paint in the right spaces, so I am blown away by your level of skill. Fair play to you.

[Football] League Two Play-Off Final: Crawley Town vs Crewe Alexandra (Sunday, 13:00)

Well he should support his local club then and not a big Premier League team! :) Yes, that is a tongue-in-cheek remark and a gentle dig at those who moan about Chelsea or Arsenal fans who've lived all their lives in Brighton. But I do remember Barry Lloyd saying when he was Brighton manager...

    [Drinking] Tip your barstaff!

Exactly. We all know the Americans don't like trade unions (too Socialist) so over there they underpay their workers and expect the customers to do it for them. And surprise surprise they prefer rich customers who can leave bigger tips. It's dreadful that it's becoming more and more prevalent...

    [Albion] Half and half scarves

I've got a half-and-half scarf One half says "Brighton and" and the other half says "Hove Albion"

[News] Never mind a nation of shopkeepers.........

Yes, same. I like going to the chippy. I chat to the guys, and sometimes meet neighbours in there. And yeah the smell is part of the anticipation. Mind you I do like the idea in your last sentence, perhaps there's a new business idea there: 'FeedU'. Save the hassle and strain of moving your...

The Palace Pier is back - and charging entrance fee

Well if they do then they'll probably scrap it again. (I'm not sure why they stopped charging admission in the first place back in the 70s or whenever it was) Anyway, I don't mind the charge if the quality of the fish and chips improves. Did I mention it used to be good but now it's now...

    [Cricket] It's just not cricket

Indeed. Great article and for me these two paragraphs sum up the Hundred: One problem is the obvious impediments to holding any kind of objective discussion. First the Hundred itself is an endlessly divisive entity. The good bits are clear enough. The Hundred was designed to expand the game’s...

    [TV] Welcome to Wrexham

That's another good point. Leaving aside the football club the actual area has benefitted from the attention - and the influx of tourist cash. I don't think the residents of the Wrexham area are at the 'Venice' level of objection yet.

    [TV] Welcome to Wrexham

I think that's a tad harsh. There's undoubtedly some truth in it, but I'm still inclined to think their ownership of Wrexham is a 'good thing' - certainly when compared to previous owners. The celebrity ownership / reality TV show thing does have its downsides as you've pointed out, but I think...

[Albion] Mason Greenwood, would you want him at the Albion?

What's that got to do with anything? You don't have to be a convicted criminal to fail the 'No Dickheads' policy.

The Palace Pier is back - and charging entrance fee

I believe there was, certainly the kiosks are there. Worthing pier definitely had an entrance charge in the 1960s. And rather than start a new thread I want to moan about how shit the fish and chips are now. The restaurant used to be good, with the food served on china plates. Expensive, yes...

[Albion] Albion Players' Awards - tonight

But it IS related, so yeah, let's discuss it. (I've got nothing to say on the issue BTW).

    [Sussex] Steyning Line History

There were rumblings a few years ago that the Cranleigh to Guildford stretch would get re-opened, but rather like Lewes to Uckfield it doesn't look like it'll happen. On the subject of the Downs Link, I didn't realise it went all the way to Guildford. Can you walk it as well? Obviously it can't...

    [Sussex] Steyning Line History

Wow, yes thank you. I shall look forward to watching that as I remember the old Horsham line. (Never went on it though). EDIT: I remember before the Shoreham by-pass was built the old wooden toll bridge used to carry the A27! You had to pay the toll at the old level crossing on the Horsham line.
