So my return from a 2 year 'jogging' absence has been ok. I've managed a slow 5k for the last 3 Mondays with a 1minute improvement each time (Now down to 32 mins) and (having stopped 3 times on week 1) now running through (although still massively fighting the urge to stop at about 3-4k).
My...
The long road to the Brighton HM 2020 has begun. I downloaded my running app and realised my last run (a 5k parkrun) was 26 months ago......
So off I went for a 5k last night. Easy, I thought. You may remember from my panicked 2 month prep (from never having run to HM) 3 years ago that I hated...
So, 3 years, 1 wedding, 1 child and 0 runs later I'm back. The grief of the 2016 Brighton half has dropped to a level where I am THINKING of signing up for 2020. We have a charity to close to our hearts which is also a factor.
Whereas I started my training (having never run before) 3 months...
I missed last weeks Parkrun in Peacehaven and now VERY scared that the heat and week off will balls up this weeks run.
I like to start the defeatist psychology nice and early.
Can I ask a quick question for those who are a bit more experienced of Park Run?
I was texted my time but never timed the run myself. Obviously it took maybe a minute or so after "finishing" to get to a marshal who scanned my barcode.
Is my time based on when my barcode was scanned or do they...
In my attempt to get into running I did my first ever park run yesterday at peacehaven. Brilliantly organised and a great atmosphere. The heat and hills almost killed me and I had a real reality check to how unfit I am. Stopped twice but got a time of 32 mins which I was surprised by!
Will...
Hoping for some help. As posted before, I'm running the Brighton Half in feb and I'm the epitome of a 'non-runner'.
I did it once before, barely trained, hated it and swore I wouldn't again....but I have.
This time I want to start early to get myself to the distance (I faded at about 10 miles...
Hi. Novice boy here again.
So I've started early in my attempt to run next years Brighton half. All previous running experience has seemingly gone and I'm back to square one.
Have gone out on 3 separate 5k runs in the last 8 days. I've had to stop on all 3 once at around 2 miles. Luckily...
That's great. thanks for the advice.
Whereas last time I HATED the training as it was sheer panic that I had one month to go from 3 miles to 13, I'm hoping this time I can enjoy (hopefully) making steady progress.
Do you know what. In the end I just registered as I knew I'd wimp out otherwise.
Last time I started my training in January (having never ran before) and died at about 10.5 miles.
This time I want to start early with a slow structured training plan and feel that I can achieve the distance by...
Completely inspired by the marathon and the heroics on show....and the fact I've had 2 years to forget the nightmare of my first ever half....I'm now FLOATING over the "sign up" button for the 2018 half.
I said I'd never do it again and I didn't enjoy a second of it....but part of my thinks I...
I've had enough time since the horrific nightmare which was the Brighton half (my first and last ever half). The Worthing 10k is tempting me as I really don't want to throw away my running shoes. I went for a 5k run and it was already difficult which was a real surprise.
Just a quick drop in to confirm I completed my first and last ever competitive race with the Brighton HM.
I was desperate to stick with the 2.15 pacer the whole way but dropped with 2 miles to go as my hips gave up on me (an old footballing injury). They were always going to go, just hoped it...
4 days before my inevitable death in the Brighton HM.
I've now stopped all running and I'm letting the legs rest. Even for HM distance, should I be carb loading from Thursday/Friday or is that really not necessary?
Honestly, if ANYONE needs ANY sort of help/advantage, its me :lolol:
That's fair enough. Thanks for the advice.
I will get home and have a sensible think! As you say, tomorrow is always an option. Again, I think it's the shock of actually WANTING to go which is the first time that's happened!
I managed 24 miles last week over 3 runs. a 7, 8 and 9.
Really want to beat the psychological barrier of doing 10 miles today. It's arguably the first time that I've actually WANTED to go for a run :lolol:
So, here it is. Half Marathon week.
And just as sods luck would have it, I feel horrendously ill today! I'm sure it's my body panicking.
Anyway, I wanted to get one more long run in today and then completely stop until race day. Would that be wise? It's more for a bit of a morale boost than...
