OK The annual number of asylum applications to the UK peaked in 2002 at 84,132 - we didn't have much of a backlog because we had a functioning system for processing them. In 2023, 67,337 applications for asylum were made in the UK - we now have a backlog because the system is not functioning...

There are currently no safe and legal routes to travel to Britain to claim asylum - Priti Patel closed the last of them down. We only have the increase in boats because we stopped the previously functioning legal asylum processes.

Blair II ?? Blair was full of charm and charisma, and swept to power on a flood of ideas, positivity, and hopes for new beginnings. Starmer is hardly that. Indeed, none of that really - the opposite of Blair I would say.

The sooner we get away from individuals and personalities the better. I won't be voting to get 'Starmer In'. I will be voting to ensure that there is a group of level-headed, non venal, relatively honest, competent, non-corrupt people leading our country - instead of the shit-show we have now...

Really it's only one election. 2010 ended in a hung parliament leading to the coalition - so not really 'won' outright by the opposition.

Depends on 'what you want'. I want this bunch out - so will vote however best to achieve that in my area. Might not be my 'first choice' - but the main 'want' now is to change.

Near enough! If 'we' didn't renew the train companies contract, and then didn't renew the train owners' franchises - it would all be 'owned' by us. Then 'we' would simply run the whole lot in an integrated fashion. No more fines for catching the wrong companies' trains. No more arguing...
