I love the Beacon, but yes, it gets a bit congested over the weekend. However, I wouldn't be daft enough to drive up it on a Saturday afternoon. Surely there are better road options if you're in a hurry? Segregated cycle lanes would be great, but there is a depressing amount of money being spent...
Be interesting to see whether a dangerous driving charge materialises?
I hear you Bold. I had two shouts of 'get on the cycle lane' this weekend - one by Hollingbury golf club where the 'cycle lane' is gravel, and the other on the way into Newhaven, which is broken up by numerous junctions and...
Think they are pretty strict. 24,000 people starting when they wanted would be a logistical nightmare. We have 5 riders in our group with start times between 6.30 and 7. We're going to meet a few hundred yards after the start line.
What a stage! Even Sky had a couple of riders in the break, crazy scenes.
Anyhow, I saw this earlier and remembered how many fans Phil has here. This is your chance to tell him what you think of his commentary skills and chat about rhinos.

Wowzers, still a very impressive list of climbs. What was the toughest of all of those? Does the altitude make a big difference? I'll probably hire a bike to avoid the faff of buying a bike box and lugging mine over. I'm considering end of Aug/Sep as it'll hopefully be a bit cooler.
I've...
Went skiing in Alpe d'Huez recently so like the idea of heading back and taking on the 21 bends. Something like this:

Have you conquered many of these?
Think I'm gonna give this a bash in preparation for some Alps action at the end of summer.

Paris-Roubaix was bloody epic, it was such an easy drive there and back, although an early start (7.30am crossing)...
Love your enthusiasm Pogue Mahone and Hamilton
You were very brave to take it on, respect! My skinny runt of a frame wouldn't last 5 mins on those cobbles. If I get any decent snaps I'll stick them up on here. I got Lars Boom at 25/1, he's down to 18/1 after his half decent shift at Flanders...
Barhatch Lane in Surrey is one of the hardest I've done, tougher than the Beacon/Bostal/Kidds/Cobb from memory. It's the last time I had to consider stopping and walking, only the Tour of Britain crowds kept me going, just couldn't face the shame! A fraction over 20% I think...
