What is your skillset? . I am not saying using slabs, personally I think slabs on sand is nota good solution and doing levels is harder than say doinga brick course or indeed a concrete footing as all you need to do is get the wooden frame level and fill to the top. What type of green house is...
I have only put one greenhouse up. I built a perimeter wall for it to sit on , 4 inches of concrete footing and one course of brick, frame screwed into it. Concrete path in the middle. That went through the big storm of 1987 without loosing any glass . A solid concrete base might work but...
Quite weird really because April/May it seemed there were no bees and few butterflies around but in the last 3 weeks we are seeing an explosion of them. There's a lot of red admirals around in my garden (woodingdean) normally I only see them in October when they come for the IVY flowers...
Definitely hard work made tricky by not being able to grab a handful of bind weed as it inevitably concealed a bramble. As you know I like my creatures and in particular slowworms take me back to being a 7 year old when I first encounter one.
Have to agree, £37 ph is very expensive for what is essentially a labouring job. I did a bit of paid gardening about 4 years ago and charged £15 ph. One task was to clear a big stretch of brambles and bind weed. I told the lady I can do this in 4 hours , i can do an in-depth job in 8 but given...
Were they dead or had they gone into deep hibernation. The reduced oxygen should be less of an issue if they were hibernating. Also note you need to be careful about breaking the ice as that can create a shock wave. Best thing is to put a floating object in pond and take it out which allows...
Thanks. Yes it is - Olympus om-d e-m10 mk 2 with a sigma 60mm lens sitting on 10mm macro tube using automatic setting and focus. With the macro tube the focal length is strange and of course very narrow so holding steady is the skill. The red and green are quite stunning aren't they - that's...
are they the small ones or the big ones. I bought a pack which had a few types including some which came up about 8 inches across...... the ones which are now full of bees are a 2 inch purple cone....
I grew some different alliums this year and they seem to attract the bees more than anything else I have in the garden (buddlia(?) , geraniums, lavender, rudebeckia etc) .
I keep a good eye on insect levels in my garden as I have slow worms , newts and frogs.
I did think the bees in my garden were doing well but they do seem to have reduced especially the bumble bees in the last month. Hovver flies seem to be greatly reduced, i normally have loads of them.
Very...
Keep seeing a humming bird hawk moth in the garden but the little f*cker flies off so quickly i can't get a photo... Hopefully might visit longer when the buddleia comes out.
