Some of it is cringeworthy now.
Especially the Germans episode.
Strongly disagree, I think it’s a brilliant episode and never find myself cringing, certainly embarrassed at Basil, which is the exact point of the episode. One of the finest half hours of comedy ever written and outstandingly performed.

I’m not ashamed to admit this either.

As a child (I’m 39) I used to watch this and Dad’s Army on a Saturday evening after Grandstand, and Polly was my first crush.

Looking back now…. I had great taste!

On my annual rewatch. 12 episodes of perfection, just masterful. Unsurpassed.

I love all kinds of British comedy, new and old, but there’s something very special about Fawlty Towers.

No matter how many times I’ve seen them, no other show makes me truly belly laugh like this.
Is it on Iplayer?

If you enjoy the series, check out the play - it's very well done. It will be touring but no Brighton stop-off, unfortunately.

I saw the show in the West end in December; we were in stitches from start to end. The actors are near-carbon copies of the original characters, so you feel as though you're practically at the original studio audience taping of an episode c. 1975

.

Paul Nicholas was surprisingly great as the Major. He was on fire

While we’re on accents, I love Mr. Hamilton, but as a Canadaphile watching back, did they really have to pick Bruce Boa, a man so Canadian he gives Bob and Doug McKenzie a run for their money?!
