Who had "crashing the global economy less than three months in" on their bingo card?

EDIT: is it fewer in this context? I get confused.

Months are countable so technically fewer is correct. However, less and fewer are interchangeable these days, aren't they?

Well, not interchangeable but using less with countable nouns won't raise an eyebrow in most situations.

Edit: most modern linguists would agree. Doubters may find Merriam Webster's piece on the subject interesting https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/fewer-vs-less

There's even a dedicated wiki page that goes into further detail

It's almost like handing the global economy over to a guy who went bankrupt while running a casino might not have been the smartest idea

You seem to have gone quiet on this. During the 4-year administration under Biden , the so-called disaster, major US and world indices gradually increased by 50%. Over the last 2 business days they've all slumped by 15-20% (and counting).

A tremendous day for the USA and the world indeed. Do you have a pension?

Just another Trump/Farage fanboy who has absolutely no understanding of the implications of their 'support' :dunce:

Very good read that highlights a number of the reasons for Trump's weird personality. Some of his assumptions and conclusions are a bit wild, but it possibly gives an insight to why we have ended up here

Regarding the Seth Abramson article linked above, his approach is to fill the gaps of what’s known with his speculation. A lot of the latter in this piece seems rather wild.

As in, even if that is what Trump thinks, so what? Turkey (plus Greece and Italy) as potential client states of Russia? Pfft. They’re currently going nowhere fast in Ukraine.

The biggest threat Trump poses is to the USA’s democratic and economic wellbeing.

At the end of my tether
I never thought I would read this about the USA

Florida is looking at the possibility of loosening some child labor laws to replace undocumented workers.
The state has been penalizing employers hiring undocumented workers, leading to businesses struggling to fill jobs that are often paid poorly and viewed as undesirable.
Both Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Republican-led legislature are now looking at children as a possible solution to the issue, according to CNN.

Hopefully he does. Love it when people like him are impacted like the rest of us plebs
It’s only politics.
Oh no it’s not - it’s our future and life itself

A very good read.

It really organised and streamlined my various thoughts on Trump. Like the man himself, understanding his motives and direction of travel is very simple if it’s laid out in its starkest terms.

He is mafia boss who wants to split the world between the bullies. He wants a return to the age of empires, just like Putin or Hitler. Hitler had a great respect for the Britain in the same way Trump does, he’d have carved up the world with us if we’d been open to it. No wonder Musk tests the water with the odd salute from time to time. The open ‘Hitler wasn’t that bad after all’ narrative from MAGA can’t be that far in the future? Maybe years rather than decades.

But the similarities between Trump and Hitler is more profound. MAGA (or NAZI) is actually his next stage. The first step was/is MAHA.

MAKE AMERICA HATE AGAIN

Find the most vulnerable groups in society, the immigrants with no money, the trans community etc and make them the enemy. Trump has been astonishingly successful at convincing the majority of Americans to vote for him, I do wonder if they realise that he wants a world set-up in the style of Orwell’s 1984?

Markets getting hammered , FTSE off another 5%. The only winners are the grifters with the inside track shorting the markets.

This could get very ugly. Its no market for orphans or widows.

The problem is the US market has grown so much in recent years and its now a very big chunk of index funds.

Will Trump backdown?

He can’t.

That is not in his nature. He has never been wrong. Never.

He’ll double down on his idiotic plans but get ready for an astonishing blame game campaign from MAGA and their tech/social media Oligarchs.

I suspect the blame will go onto Biden, China, the EU and the Trans community. That’s absolutely believable from the perspective of many of his MAGA followers in the states.

Where this narrative carries risk is around people’s personal wealth. Many who voted Trump did it for their own financial gain and were quite happy to throw environmental concerns and liberation concerns under the bus. When the dollar in their pocket can only purchase a noticeable reduction of what it could pre-Trump, how do these knuckleheads square the circle? How do they remain pro-Trump?

To be fair, by the end of this, he'll probably know more about stock market crashes than anyone else. He'll be the greatest stock market crash knower in the world.

Bigly.
