Okay, I have given it 30 years or so of grace, in the vain hope that someone would correct this error.

But I still find it irritating in the extreme. To be fair for most of those 30 years, it hasn't really affected me that much, but as we edge ever closer to the possibility that we might compete in it I feel I need to speak out.

Who is with me on this?

Are there any other inexplicable decisions that you still struggle with after a long period of time?

In an ideal world, they'd rename the three competitions in some kind of clear, simple hierarchy.

Such as:
Champions League > European Gold Cup
Europa League > European Silver Cup
Europa Conference League > European Bronze Cup

Etc – other systems apply too. But it's more likely NSC will complete the 'Let's count to 500,000' thread before such sanity prevails.

According to this table someone posted the other day, we could also have

Champions League > European Yellow Cup
Europa League > European Green Cup
Europa Conference League > European Red Cup

As more and more clubs are added to the European Cup, yes, the name it gets given these days does make it sound completely stupid
Ironically, the name change coincided with the addition of additional 'champions' from each country. At least at that point they added a league bit.

Could champions not mean the chosen teams of a country, they are the champions of England. Champion does not just mean winner
Ah yes. A bit like in Game of Thrones, where if you're sentenced to death for treason or something you can get someone to fight for your life.

It's not usually used in that sense in football though

cup for winners of each league - yes
cup for winners of main knockout competitions - errr, yes, I suppose so
cup for also rans in such competitions - no

the problem has been that the European administrators, like most Euro type things, like to take things over and grow at the expense of the fundamental principles of each Association/country.

too many greedy fingers in a pie that is just too big for anyone to be arsed about.

Surely this is an obvious enough mistake to have been fixed by now?

Why are we sticking with it? You f***ed up UEFA, own it and fix it you twats.

Call it the bloody Platini Cup if you want but bloody fix it.

The Platini Cup has a bit of a ring to it, pity he is such a bell end.

Okay, I propose the following.

We do a poll of all our suggestions of what to call it - we can do a cup thing if there are lots.

Then vote on the best one (I am fully trusting of our ability to pick something better, its not like the Brits have a history of f***ing up vote(y) mcVote face . . . I didn't mention Brexit)

Then we do that auto text changing thing for every time someone types Champions League.

Voila, NSC is a little haven of sanity in a mad and confusing world.

Who is with me?

It won't be long before the world follows suit and good sense is restored.
