Isn’t the Irish one in effect two anthems to appease the proddies in the north who play rugby for Eire


like Rory who comes from the north and has a Northern Ireland flag next to his name, but he represents Eire whenever he plays international comps

GSTK is a pile sh*t. Terrible downbeat dirge that celebrates an indvidual rather than the country they represent. Give me Jerusalem any day pop the week. Am happy for other songs to be taken into consideration. FoS is a dirge too but it has a slight edge to it. Of the home nations the Welsh are streets ahead with their anthem and songbook. Internationally the French and Italians lead the way. The English are stuck with some servile cult of personality gubbins.

See, for me, the Ireland one is NAFF. It sounds like it's the result of a year 2 project to write a national anthem for a country.

GSTK does seem well past it's sell by. We need a song that can unite not divide. Something modern but timeless. With meaning. And near universal popularity. I propose Pulp's 'Common People'.

Flower of Scotland and GSTK is comparable with songs sung by Albion fans and Palace fans.

Two are sh*te and i'm sure you can guess which are the sh*t ones ;) :confused:

Errr... no it isn't. The national anthem of the Republic of Ireland is Anhran na bhFiann (Soldier's Song). The "proddies in the north" play for a united Irish rugby team which has adopted Ireland's Call as it's anthem, though Anhran na bhFiann is also played for matches in Dublin.

I presume you are referring to Rory McIlroy? He just considers himself Irish; he happens to have been born in one of the six Irish counties that currently remain annexed by Britain.
