To be fair the demographic has changed significantly over the past decade or so. The recent switch to Labour was down to transplants as much as anything else, so it is a big deal.

As much as I like Victoria in her designer gear, there’s a certain allure to her being in cheap H&M joggers and a sloppy tee.
I"ve not followed the furore with the WFA too much but my understanding that ‘society’s poorest’ that you refer to in your quote above will presumably be in receipt of pension credit and other means tested benefits and so will still be eligible for the wfa. If that’s the case I don’t know what the fuss is all about. My mum will probably bang on about it but as she’s got about 200k in the bank she don’t bleeding need it.

Yep, agree with the point you are making though - it seems grossly unfair that older pensioners are on a lower pension rate than younger pensioners however, they are entitled to pension credits so will at least qualify for the winter fuel allowance - and other means-tested benefits so it’s not all black and white

Being down to his last £4m-£7,7m (depending on which source you believe), he'll be feeling the same as those pensioners who have lost the money they need to keep themselves warm this winter.

Well done to your mum - she won't be feeling the stress of pensioners with no savings, barely making do month-to-month, facing sky-high utility bills and not sure how they'll stay warm this winter.

It would certainly focus the minds of oap’s who voted Labour and presumed a centre left party wouldn’t hurt them.

I find it sickening the way the right wing press have been so faux outraged by it - its absolutely a policy that if it were the Tories they would be fully behind as a rational and sensible cut to make - it's more of a Tory policy anyway on the face of it.
Such is the gutter press in this country, though

Sky News, BBC, Guardian, LibDems have been highly critical, 50 Labour MP’s disappeared on vote evening, a wide raft of charities have been damning.
Labour obsessives here would love to pigeon hole this as purely wealthy Daily Mail reading old people. Nothing to see here.
Alas for them, a whole load of people, journalists and charities won’t let this lie.
Hopefully Reeves will do something fair on budget day.
