Talk of beaten track! The Centurion, actually in Newcastle station, is a great pub. It used to be the first class waiting room in years gone by. On the last two occasions we played Newcastle that was my first stop off point for a pint. Really friendly and the Geordie fans very welcoming.

Not sure there is any other city in the country where fans stop you in street for a chat. Conversation always starts with ‘it’s great that you travelled up’, followed by lots of footy chat and finishes with ‘enjoy the city, hope it’s great game’. I love the place!
I was probably on the same train! End of December so the train was rammed with revellers going up to Edinburgh for Hogmanay. I managed to position myself by the buffet bar - very convenient! A load of Geordies got on at York (as per your post) and we had a great time chatting football related stuff. And they still love Chris Hughton by the way.

For those who like a bit a craft, the Newcastle Tap pretty much opposite the station is decent, but busy. For those with a bit more time, then I heartily recommend Beer Street Micropub. Turn right out station, right again through the railway bridge, then first left. Good selection of cans for the journey back as well.Talk of beaten track! . Spent 3-4 very happy hours in the Newcastle Arms pre-match, watching it fill up at a steady pace with what felt like 50/50 BHA + Toon. Wonderful friendly boozer, fans mixing freely and healthy banter all round. As it should be. Even the Guinness was under £6.
100% accurate description. One of the best ever away days. Absolutely loved it. After years of trying, finally, it fell on a 3pm Saturday that I could make.Whilst in the Newcastle Arms and after being engaged in conversation I simply said "I hope you lose" and one of them suspected we would be right. As I left, after a fun chat with some Geordies, one said, "fanks for travelling oop, good luck to ya, lot of respect to Brighton.... but I 'ope we fooookin smash ya.."

Love to hear that - I have always found Newcastle a very special place and one of the few places I'd leave Brighton for to live. There's a very special vibe about the City and the people are a huge reason why that's the case for me.
First visit.. never knew they had a proper/decent Tube/Metro system up there (excuse ignorance). The Geordies are refreshingly great. Out for a bloody good time, all the time. Super friendly and wow, it's a proper religion up there. City crawling with Toons shirts at 09:30am. A bog standard league match is literally an all day event. St. James Park genuinely amazing ground.
And wow, coming out the ground (city locations still the best by a mile), the place is buzzing.. pavements packed.. felt like Xmas or New Years Eve. Spent the post-match in the Newcastle Tap with the locals which was great. Had to catch a 8:30pm flight back.. and we were all gutted to leave the party town. Will do it again and stay over!

bloody hell you have just listed all my favourite Newcastle pubs! You are clearly a man with great taste! I'd add in Baccas, The Tyne and for an off the wall cocktail experience the WC in the Bigg Market
