I stopped drinking at the end of 2021, but my decision was nothing to do with trying to lose weight. It's a good thing thing, really, because it made ZERO difference to my weight – if anything it was more than counteracted by all the extra stuff I was eating because I developed a sweet tooth, possibly because of the lack of alcohol!
Dry January (and beyond) for me. Put on 5lbs since New Year. Stabilized this week and should be back to skin and bone without shag handles in a month or two.

My post from January 1st

This morning's weigh in was 12st 13.
I'll put the 7lb as my target, but that may well not be achievable in a month, would be happy with 12st 9 at end of month, and a gradual reduction to the low 12's

1st January 12st 13
3rd January 12st 11
10th January 12st 11
17th January 12st 10
24th January 12st 9
31st January 12st 9

Well, that'll do.
A pound or two a month from here would be fine.

End of Jan weigh-in:

1 Jan: 82.35kg (13st 0lb)
8 Jan: 80.80kg (12st 10lb)
15 Jan: 81.15kg (12st 11lb)
22 Jan: 80.55kg (12st 10lb)
29 Jan: 80.05kg (12st 8lb)
1 Feb: 79.9kg (12st 8lb)

Loss since 1 Jan: 2.45kg (5.5lb)
Loss since 1 Nov: 6.6kg (14.5lb)

Not quite the 7lb loss in Jan, but I’ve just about dipped under the 80kg barrier, which has been a target for a very long time.

Nov’24 closing weight - 12st 4lbs (78kg)
6/1/25 - 12st 6lbs (78.9kg)
13/1/25 - 12st 5lbs (78.5kg)
20/1/25 - 12st 2lbs (77.1kg)
31/1/25 - 12st 2lbs (77.1kg)
Target weight - 11st 13lbs (75.7kg)

The 20/1 to 31/1 period included a 10 night holiday abroad, normally a serious weight inducing exercise. Ate lots but mostly kept off refined carbs, oils, sugars etc. A good motivator is How To Eat by Dr Andrew Jenkins which is building my knowledge of the chemical pathways (leptins, insulin, hypothalamus etc) in my body and giving a sense of being in control. The tug of war continues but very confident of finally resetting in the 11 stone bracket.

That's a fantastic effort.

I finished off Jan having lost 4.5lbs. Not the seven I was after, and not even back to the end of Nov weight (it was a VERY indulgent Xmas). But it's stopped going up and it's moving in the right direction.

In Feb I'm aiming for 4 more pounds (2kg) to get me to 15st 8lb and then I plan to keep going until I'm around 15lbs in the early summer.

I'll keep posting weekly weight on here but will revert to posting on Fridays. Thanks for all your encouragement, ideas and determination. It really has helped keep me on track - most of the time.

Great thread. Just trawled through the last couple of pages. So many of us on the downward weight trend. You’re an inspiration, mate.

Mostly water weight, I'd guess.
A long long way to go,

Hopefully this time I can stick to it all the way and get myself down to sensible weight.
Don't dismiss that loss so quickly. You're going down, not up. Keep working at it, stay motivated, and keep checking in here if you feel you need encouragement or a kick up the arse.

I'm not dismissing it.
Just fully aware that getting carried away with that level of loss can lead to loss of motivation when the weight loss slows down.

Will keep posting in here.
At 56, I need to get this sorted sooner rather than later.

Joined the November (?) one. It lasted about 12 hours.

I don’t do dry Jan as the first week or so is a bit dull so I like to finish off the xmas booze/cheese/chocolate.

However, mid Jan was a record high/low (what ever way you look at it) weighing in at 18/5

I needed to do something.

Set a target of under 17 st by March 1st, I’ve dropped the booze and the bad food and taking longer walks (I’ve even got the bike out the shed, we’ll play that one by ear though 😊)

I had a few beers at the Everton match and wish I hadn’t, I like a drink as you know but sort of wish I hadn’t. (Moving forward, this year I’ll be working on binging… I mean drinking responsibly, but that’s for another day/thread)

I’m out next Saturday (bad fan missing Chelsea) but I’ll limit myself to a Chefs Salad, Some lightly grilled Chicken and 10 bottles of Corona (the beer not the 70s sugar laden pop)

Southampton will be my only other “day off” however I have a new regime in place for away days and I’ll let you know post match how I got on.

Oh, I weighed in this morning at 17/9 (-10lb)

EDIT: re reading it’s a bit me, me, me. but I feel good for getting it off my chest. Well done to everyone on here with their efforts, yes it’s fuckin hard, but keep going!!!
