We have planned a staycation in Somerset and North Devon (come on weather gods!) For the Easter holidays. I was just in the process of looking to list my ticket for it when I checked my spreadsheet (yeah you heard me) to.see where we'd be in the day of the match.

Staying overnight in Glastonbury.🤔🤔🤔🤔.

I guess what I'm looking for here apart from some support around that not actually being that bad a round trip to get back for... I'd also like a really concrete moral argument to be able to tell my wife and kids about why I'm disappearing with the car for a day at midpoint of our holiday?

Any thoughts or useful tactics you've used in the past?
Hate to be that person who tops you, but I have holidays booked for BOTH the FA Cup semi final and final dates… I’m hoping to be royally pissed off for not being able to make both…!

You flat out tell your Mrs that you're going to football whether she likes it or not, and being the reasonable and rational wife that she undoubtedly is, she'll not only think it's a great idea but will make you a sarnie for your road trip. The kids will definitely not have any lasting memories of how you abandoned them either, it's win win.
Let me know how that goes. Smoothly is my guess.

I think you’ve possibly guaranteed us passage to the final, where we beat Palace in a legendary 4-3 thriller with a March hattrick (one of them a penalty) and Dunk getting the winner in the 95th minute (Hinshelwood assist) in front of the Palace fans. With that in mind I’d like to be the first to thank you for your service.

A staycation is when you take time off work but stay in your house and go on day trips etc. What you have planned is a holiday.
If only you weren't wrong

staycation

informal
noun
  1. a holiday spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.
verb
  1. take a holiday in one's home country rather than abroad, or at home with day trips to local attractions.
"we have been busy sourcing the best spots to staycation this summer"

This is exactly the sort of rhetoric I can unthinkingly get behind.

Ah, gone are the days when you could walk solemnly from the bathroom, saying I am really sorry love but...
presenting she who must be obeyed occasionally an "old" positive covid test result (you had saved for such occasions)

Preparation was vital, lay a bit of ground work, you know the deal, go to bed early the night before complaining of just not feeling right.

Just keep reminding yourself it's going to be a frustrating 0-0 against Leicester, and that by not driving back to the Amex you will be a very good husband and father for staying with them.

This will give you millions of brownie points to slope off on various European fixtures next season.
Start laundering any money you can now and hide all extra cash from opportunities that come up.

Here goes :

You have won a competition that you’ve completely forgotten about entering. The said competition is relevant to aspects of improving the Amex stadium. Your prize is to be a guest of honour for the day with Tony Bloom and Paul Barber in attendance. You will be wined and dined in the directors dining room and then watch the match from the comfort of the best seats in the house.

Your part in this mission is come up with feasible evidence to convince everyone how legit all this is. Get to work and best of luck!

I cannot help as I have never attempted such a heinous plan.

It’s only Leicester. I would strongly advise staying on holiday with your family.
Well said.

It's either that, or find a new wife who would be more understanding.
