Apologies for the long post, but thought I'd share this. Was up in Edinburgh at the weekend to mark the first year of the sudden death of my father-in-law, who was Leith born and bred, and a huge Hibee. We'd obviously clocked earlier in the season that Hibs were at home to St Johnstone on the Saturday so this would be the perfect opportunity to have a proper final send off with loads of his family and mates.

We'd hired a room at the Hibs social club for the evening, and wondered whether there'd be the chance to sprinkle some of the ashes at Easter Road. There didn't seem to be anything on the Hibs' website about doing this, but I'd found a thread on a Hibs forum with the email of the head groundsman.

A bit of messaging to and fro later and we're stood in the main reception at Easter Road at 9.30am on matchday, about 10 close family, and ashes in a box. We'd been told we'd be able to sprinkle some of the ashes behind the goal at one end. What followed was truly incredible. We were given a tour of the manager's office and changing rooms, then out through the tunnel, photo ops in the dugouts, before being taken to the goal at the home end of the stadium.

The groundsman had one of those tools that makes golf holes and he proceeded to make three holes IN THE BLOODY GOAL! He then left us for about 20 minutes so we could do what we had to. Never once felt rushed despite his team getting the pitch prepared for later that day.

The game itself was a stroll of a 3-0 to Hibs. First two goals at the other end, then a barrage at the home end in the second half. Save after save, we thought we'd cursed that goal. But then, 95th minute, penalty calmly tucked away, icing on the cake. Oh, and Scottish football is dry at the moment! The irony of the Albion just opening a new £40 squillion bar that day didn't escape me.

Then into the Hibs social club to watch the agonies of Brighton, being surrounded by more and more sympathetic and increasingly drunken Hibs supporters for ET and pens. Whisky really is the perfect drink to drown your sorrows.

Thank you, Hibs. The football family can be incredible at times. And to Brian, hope you're happy with the view.

Love Hibs.

Been watching them for over 30 years now.

Was on a work day-trip to Edinburgh once and we walked past Easter Road. I suggested we pop into the reception.

Next thing I know we're getting a tour of the ground, which included the first team dresssing room where three players were getting treatment!

Four English randoms pop in off the street and end up getting an unscheduled tour.

Was hoping Tony would buy them!

Absolutely top drawer football club.

Hibs are my Scottish club too, thanks to the fact we had a lodger who was a Hibee. I've followed them ever since but never actually been. Will do one day...

Another who considers Hibs their Scottish team here too. Mate used to live near Easter Road and we'd always try to take in a game whenever we visited if Hibs were at home. Great club and that is a lovely gesture made by them.

What an amazing and heart warming story.

One of my best mates lives in Edinburgh. He's originally from Hampshire and a Saints fan ... but he's been living in Edinburgh for 20+ years now and Hibs are very much his team up there. I went to a game with him on one of my first visits up there ... I still have the ticket (I can't believe it's almost 20 years ago). Hibees weren't happy that day - they were coasting at 2 up at HT but lost 3-2.

I sent a link of the story to my mate which he said he would pass on to some of his Hibee friends.

It really is a wonderful city and I seem to fall more in love with it the more times I go. Think I can see myself living there eventually. House in Portobello by the coast. Season ticket at Easter Road. Down to Gatwick for a few Brighton games a year, northern away games as well. Yep, that'd do me I think.

My mate loves it. When he first went up we thought it would be short term. 20+ years later says it all really. He’s ventured into some wild parts of Scotland and climbed a significant number of Munros. Last weekend he caught a train out to the West Highlands. He was sending me photos of Loch Lomond etc on his train journey. stunning scenery. I sent him a photo from my Seagull Travel bus on the way to the game of ‘Loch Shoreham Harbour’ 😁

Love Edinburgh.

Based in Rosyth on and off for 6 years. When I couldn’t afford to come home, and the Albion were down south, I would go to either Easter Road or Tynecastle. Failing that, Dunfermline or Raith Rovers.

Back in those days it could get a bit dodgy with a very south of England accent, but, I met more decent sweatys than I ever met bad un’s.
Most of the Hibees and Jambo fans I met didn’t care where I was from, as long as I didn’t support the other Edinburgh club, or God forbid, the two Glasgow clubs.

My dad and his brother were Leith born and raised. Sadly, dad died just 18 months before Hibs broke their 114 year drought and won the Scottish Cup in 2016.

I try and get up to a few games each season and I'm delighted that club legend David Gray has turned their season round. Always enjoy the trip.

The tram has made getting around Edinburgh a doddle. There are some great pubs in Leith. Robbie's Bar is as good a place for pre match pints as you'll find, IMO.
