For goodness sake, people with disorders of sexual development make up about 1% of the population, and even they are either male of female (generally configured to produce small gametes or large gametes).
yes but we need to get them on tv asap , it needs to be more in our face

A colleague of mine was spiked with rohypnol in a bar Brighton last night and spent the night in hospital having had her stomach pumped. I am incandescent with rage about this. She was informed by a Police officer that crimes against women have increased by 40% in Brighton and Hove is the last two years. It's not trans women committing these crimes.
I’m sorry to hear that happened to her. I’m certainly not saying Trans people are committing all these crimes. Yes I also in agreement with you with extreme Andrew Tait’s of this world who can make trans people unsafe with their extreme message.

Thanks.

I'm really concerned that as a society, we have taken our collective eyes off the real dangers to women.

I can confirm that the women I work with also feel that we are being asked to look away from those places.

Ruling says the concept of sex is binary

In an 88-page ruling, Lord Hodge, Lady Rose and Lady Simler said: "The definition of sex in the Equality Act 2010 makes clear that the concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man.

Harriet Harman, who was involved in drafting the legislation, has confirmed that this was the intention.

Well, I think as one of the few trans women on this board I should comment.

This will put members of my community in danger and it will cause harassment for gender non conforming women when they try to use the spaces they are legally entitled to use.

This will be the thin end of the wedge.

Thank you for posting, and I would hope that your fears are unfounded. The judgement is very clear that everyone is still protected under the law.

The world is not safer at all.

Whilst, in my view the judgement was correct, all the hype around this issue was started by radical feminists and taken on by the gaslighting right wing media and right wing populism politicians. They taken a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Your daughter is in more danger than young women have been in for a generation due to toxic masculinity and incels and influences of people like Andrew Tate and movements like MAGA.

Sorry to hear that

Slight off topic, but I made a rare visit out for drinks into Brighton last weekend, I noticed how few police/bouncers there was compared to a few years ago.

I'm sure a lot is on CCTV footage, but the sight of a bouncer/police officer walking around would certain put off a lot of people from doing anything scummy

Might just be a one off for that evening - edit : the number of police that is

The bit that makes me shake my head in despair is the judge specifically writing "We counsel against reading this judgment as a triumph of one or more groups in our society at the expense of another, it is not." Only for the leader of the opposition to immediately call it a victory and the successful litigants to pose for press photos outside the court pouring glasses of champagne. The debate, like seemingly every debate since the advent of the internet, is always adversarial and can enjoy no discussion of nuance despite the obvious need for it.

I don't know enough about the topic, nor – if I'm honest – do I really care. But good luck to those of you who do one or either of those things to fight it out for the following XX number of pages without actually coming to any sort of conclusion or agreement

Gonna mute this thread after posting this, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am. This judgement will some day be seen as a source of national shame akin to Section 28, and I hope that day comes sooner rather than later.

My hope for this thread is not conclusion or agreement but it is a chance for people to level up their understanding about this subject. Shit like this ruling relies on people's ignorance on the Topic.

Time to get educated so we can support those affected by it.

what dont you agreee with about the ruling? not the science around sex, because it was about clarifying the law, not science.

I know people are keen to explain all this in simple terms. It's not simple. And it's peoples lives we are talking about here.

If it was simple, it wouldn't have taken 88 pages to explain it.

If we all agree to protect and support people who either chose live life in a different gender, or who are naturally born into biological bodies that are alien to them, then we are doing the right thing.

This is going to be a constant debate and a war or words and terms and subjectivity. A legal ruling won't make any difference if you are a man transitioning to a woman or a woman transitioning to a man. It won't make much difference if you are non-binary. We are still faced with the challenge of creating spaces where people can be who they naturally are.
