If only people would start singing it in the lower octave.
It sounds ridiculous when the tenors wobble down an octave when they let their "voices ring".
Falter more like.
Agreed. I am a wobbly tenor. A few semitones could do it. Google says the following. Perhaps the Albion media team can work on it....

You can change the key of a song digitally by using any digital audio workstation, or any other pitch shifting tools at your disposal. Moving the master file or all of the individual files of your track simultaneously up or down pitches will change keys in a song.

Miss Cowl from Stringer would be proud of your music knowledge .... if you'd actually been there!

HGSB me. 'Poof' Brookes thought I was a yob.

Plus, having listened to some of Bernard Sumner's earlier efforts,
I have long desisted from slipping into octave embarrassment. ???

He was wrong about us following the original words though wasn't he?

I never hear an 'Oh Sussex', and the amount of numpties that sing 'and we tell them all' gets on my tits.
I'm sorry to say that I still occasionally sing:
"Good old sausage by the sea".
I'll get my crutches.....

They whole song is in the wrong key for a loud rendition at least for most people
A key change would make the whole song much fuller and louder

The only thing I would say about SBTS, is it all goes so well until “so let your voices”. It’s too high for most, so we drop an octave, which isn’t easy for non-singers on the fly, which always makes that bit sound shit
