I don't know anyone who would have done what he did. Re advisors, if your boss is an absolute tool you have to advise them in the strongest terms possible when they are making catastrophic errors. Maybe even put your job on the line to stop them. That is their job. His advisors have failed...

I concur with Tim Montgomerie 100%. Whoever is advising Sunak is a bigger idiot than Sunak himself. At least the King was there to show some dignity and decorum on behalf of the UK. Shameful behaviour from Sunak.

More fool them if they think that it was a huge swing to them. It was a massive swing away from the Conservatives and towards those who couldn't give a damn, just like all the recent by-elections. That should worry all the parties.

Indeed. Under PR we would be looking at potentially getting a lot of seats for less popular parties some of which would be welcome, some not. Under FPTP Labour should win by default.

There is. Someone from the opposite party drops out if someone cannot attend a vote. It happens all the time.

I agree it isn't democratic but you have to get subject experts somewhere into the system because they are not in the HoC and probably never will be. I would argue that you could never have a fully democratic HoL, you would have to have certain appointments in there too. I have just looked up...
