He's clearly NSC's no.1 choice (over Steele) now. First half of the season there were plenty of doubts - on NSC, and obviously with the management, who weren't entirely convinced either, hence their policy of easing him in. Hindsight is wonderful, eh?
He wasn't ready at the start of the season! Another of de Zerbi's stranger decisions was binning off Sanchez because he wanted a keeper with footwork like Pirlo rather than one who could make worldy saves to win us (although to be fair he got away with it for half a season before he had to start...
Except that we were always going to have to let one of them go, probably for a lower price than we would like due to no PL experience (and clubs outside the PL mostly not having a pot to piss in). Now it looks like we'll have to lose them both, having had to bring in Verbruggen to replace...
I think if Steele, Verbruggen and McGill were all injured (and Big Bob gone) it would be Rushworth who would get the recall before Scherpen. Rushworth is a top keeper in the making, out to gain experience - Scherpen's loan is more of a shop-window loan.
Not altogether correct - we simply don't know how good or otherwise McGill is. He hasn't (I don't think) played a single minute for the first team, and has never had a signficant loan. I don't know when he signed up to, but a decision about him needs to be made soon, I would think. Sell him now...
Not a top six team maybe, but he'll still be a damn good keeper for any club outside that elite group - so long as they want a GK, not a deep lying CM/sweeper. I suspect it will be abroad though.
Wonder what we'll do for a third GK now. Will we just take a risk and allow the U21 GK to step up if needed? - McGill I'm sure needs a decent loan - apart from one game for Crawley he's only ever had a couple of short low level non-league loans. Rushworth is probably good enough too - but his...
