[Music] Happy 80th, the one the only: Ritchie Blackmore

Have to admit I don't like this speeded up version. Ronnie's vocals on this Munich gig are outstanding particularly on Catch The Rainbow :)

The sad thing about Ritchie is all the wasted years with the medieval minstrel nonsense with his wife. There was a lot of rock left in this genius.
I love the funky studio version too, but like the faster, heavier live renditions in equal measure … the studio version is there if we want to enjoy the Gruber/Driscoll axis…

As for the above, it’s the Night People vocal solo spot that makes it a classic moment… Dio, so operatic… a voice like no other.

What can you say? The solo really ended it for most guitarists… the irony of Long Live RnR the LP? Where do you go after that? Yeah, it pretty much killed heavy rock with this solo its zenith… Thom Yorke was right, once it’s done everything else is imitation… or something like that…

Definitely won't be posting the medieval stuff with Candice but here is a classic. The second instrumental break was my ringtone for many years:

Great thread, I'm having to restrain myself here, so many good songs from Richie. I prefer the Deep Purple years, I love John Lord's keyboard. This one is one my favourites, the melacholy sound works so well:

Blackmore has to be in the Top 10 All-TIme British rock guitarists. The guy is a legend.

Anyone know why I can't post video links or photos anymore? The options in bar are greyed out to the extent I can't even bold or italicize text?

It's sad to see that following his heart attack, he's still plagued by ill-health. Probably my all-time fave guitarist, overall, but such a shame he's a cantankerous old git...always has been.
Yeah, i’m a wee bit worried about his health… he’s done well to get this far I guess… but (yeah) it’ll be a dark day at Kosh towers when Ritchie departs… yes, he was difficult to work with, demanding… contrite… but once you’re under his spell, well… it’s difficult to cure.
