Jodie Foster has revealed that she is a lesbian after years of rumours about her sexuality.

The 45-year-old thanked her “beautiful Cydney” during a speech at the Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment breakfast, confirming that she is in a relationship with film producer Cydney Bernard.

The pair are thought to have been seeing each other for 15 years and are raising Foster's two children together, but the actress has always resisted pressure from gay rights groups to talk about the romance.

In the speech, Foster paid tribute to her partner, "who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss”.

I read a long article on that last Saturday. Was an interesting 'piece', partly on Foster and the horrors she had to face with stalkers such as John Hinckley, obsessed with Taxi Driver and her teen prostitute role within, shooting Ronnie Reagan and claiming it was for her benefit. And another stalker who said she was too pretty to shoot, who followed her throughout her time at Yale Uni. From then on it's suggested she'd go public on nothing at all, and that is the main reason she didn't "announce" her sexuality. But then the other half of the article was on how no one could come out and sustain a broad range of character or diverse success in their career in Hollywood. They acted as if it was a disgrace to stay in hiding amongst the monolithic bullies of human suffering that the central cinema system is, but i suppose that actually warrants are broader debate; how we are shocked by a "system" designed to build and make-up people to sell as someone else actually preventing the products them from ever truly being themselves.
