My Daughter has decided it is time for me to teach her to drive. In my day it use to be Stanmer Park or a supermarket car park after closing. Where do I take her nowadays in the Brighton area to wreck my clutch?

my mate's a Brighton driving instructor - Tongdean to start even though the 4 x 4 brigade don't like it and he says tend to overtake or drive up your arse to make a point....but he recommends the area around Shoreham on the other side of the water as it is a decent circuit to learn the basics with little traffic or pedestrians to hit!

My 1st lesson was at Madeira Drive. Just drove up down there to get a feel of the car. Just from the bottom of Dukes Mound to Black Rock. Tends to be very quiet most of the time.

Good luck with that. It usually finishes up in a big row and the parent paying for lessons with a school.
I also think you are very brave. I was a driving instructor before we moved here and would not be comfortable with a complete beginner without dual controls in case of emergency.

If you want somewhere that's quiet and *cough* not on the public highway then I recommend the widewater car park on Shoreham Beach. Long and narrow but just wide enough to turn round without having to use reverse. Recently taught my eldest the basics there before she started having lessons. At this time of year you need to leave it until evening and the people using the beach have gone home (or wait until the weather gets shit again)

Im a newish driver and I learnt reversing round corners, hill starts and all the other basic stuff like that in Hangleton Valley Drive

I learnt to dirve on the road on the routes I would be taking my test so I knew them and that was in Bugess Hill (worthing his harder !!!!!)

Also worth knowing that there in no test centre in Brighton now so its either Worthing or Burgess hill which is nearest.

With Worthing having a pass rate of 49.9% compared to Burgess Hill 49.6%, does this mean the learners in Worthing are better ?

My son is learning with a great guy - Scott Matthews - thoroughly recommend him - I took my son down to wide water in shoreham before his first proper lesson - he's had ten lessons and is about to put in for his test - then will have to start saving up for a cheap car and ridiculously overpriced insurance!!!
