[Film] Minecraft Movie

Anyone else been dragged along to this during the school hols? What did you reckon if so?

I was fearing the worst as I just don't get the game and the trailer looked awful, but I actually found it pretty enjoyable. Jack Black absolutely carries it, it's very cheesy and I missed pretty much every reference, but I didn't mind it. Watched it in 4DX with my boys which definitely helped, they initially didn't even want to watch it after seeing the trailer but they loved it. Haven't seen the cinema so packed since the first Harry Potter film came out when I was a kid.

Interested to see if this trend of kids kicking off in the cinema has made its way here as well. There were a few teenagers shouting and clapping at times but nothing major when we went, but have seen videos of teenagers screaming, throwing popcorn and drinks etc when particular phrases are said.. All a bit odd.

Yeah what the hell was that about. Why were all of the kids in the cinema going mad, I really don't get it. Is it a thing that I've missed?

CHICKEN JOCKEY!!! etc

I took my son to watch it at the Worthing Dome. He's 6 so has only recently "got into" Minecraft. I must say it was possibly the rowdiest kids film I've ever gone to. Teenagers were going absolutely mental for it. Massive outbreaks of applause and cheering at regular intervals...I've never really experienced anything like it

Before the film a member of staff stood up at the front and warned against "rowdiness" and also using phones to record it- I can only imagine they had issues the day before. Quite a few teenagers were thrown out

The film was ok- I imagine if you were really into Minecraft and grew up on it etc then you'd love it. Decent storyline and entertaining enough but I didn't get all the references

It was explained to me this morning by The Rest Is Entertainment podcast that the 'behaviour' is triggered at the points when lines from the trailer appear in the movie.

Kids, eh...?

Kids liked it though.

3/10 from me and that's being generous. Noisiest cinema I've ever been in, which was lucky as my son was having a few moments himself. No rowdiness, but there were a few short bouts of clapping.

My daughter (12) went to see it ironically last Friday and came back saying it was actually pretty good.

And she was never really much into Minecraft.

My sister reported similar after taking her kids to see it. Apparently there was the same message about phones, which was immediately ignored but they had staff marching up and down threatening to chuck people out.

I went to the Odeon with my two boys on Saturday.

I thought that the rowdiness & shouting etc was because it had just come out. Seems I was wrong. As others have said, the audience reacted more like a crowd at a football match than in a cinema watching a movie.

That didn’t stop me falling asleep as I do in most kids movies I watch at the Cinema!

I loved Jack Black but the plot was mind numbingly dull.

Looks bloody awful but snow white was meant to be the worst film of all time and it is actually very decent so who knows ?

I agree, it's rarely posted on.

Shame this behaviour has clearly found it's way into cinemas here, presumably from Americans on social media. I'm sure loads of kids have had the film totally ruined for them for the sake of a 'meme', which is very sad.
I have to say that, even as a confused 40s dad, the experience of the film was improved by it. It's was a fun knockabout film, it was something the kids obviously were enjoying and I really didn't need to hear every line to work out what was going on.

Let them enjoy themselves, I say.

Yeah, I thought the same when we went tbh. People were quite vocally into it but nothing to really detract from what was going on and probably improved the experience for the kids.

Had it been like this, however...
