When was the last time we turned defeat into victory so late in the game. I can't think of one. 0-3 down at Coventry to 3-3 was a goodie (and we missed a great chance at the last).

Steve Sidwell scored two in, I think, four minutes for a last minute comeback at Withdean. Can't remember the opponents though

2 0 down to Bristol Rovers in 1966 with 15 minutes to go. We went on to win 3-2. Dave Turner scored a couple I believe. It was my first ever game. How could I not return after that?

To turn a 1 0 losing position at half time to a 1 all at full time away to Hereford was no doubt our most important ever recovery.

Not necessarily 100% on topic re all comebacks but stats for The Amex show that we have scored a goal in the last 10 mins and then another in added on time, 5 times in the 329 Amex games (twice v West Ham:lolol:). 3 of them comeback wins, 1 draw to win, and the other consolidated the lead already held.

06/08/11 v Doncaster Rovers (W 2-1 Champ.) - comeback win (83 & 90+8 mins)
26/10/19 v Everton (W 3-2 Prem.) - comeback win (80 pen & 90+4 o.g. mins)
22/05/22 v West Ham (W 3-1 Prem.) - draw to win (80 & 90+2 mins)
12/08/23 v Luton Town (W 4-1 Prem.) - consolidated the win from leading 2-1 (85 & 90+5 mins)
26/04/25 v West Ham (W 3-2Prem.) - comeback win (89 & 90+2 mins)

On top of these late late shows there have been 9 instances of us scoring 2 or more in the final 15 mins of games (75-90 only and not including added on time) 2 comeback wins, 3 draws to wins, 3 consolidating an already held lead and 1 defeat.

02/03/13 v Huddersfield (W 4-1 Champ.) - draw to win (76, 78 and pen on 81st min and the only time we've done either scenario in front of the South Stand)
11/03/14 v QPR (W 2-0 Champ.) - draw to win (77 & 86 mins)
12/08/14 v Cheltenham (W 2-0 Lge Cup) - draw to win (79 & 90 mins)
05/12/15 v Charlton (W 3-2 Champ.) - comeback win (83 & 85 mins)
15/04/16 v Fulham (W 5-0 Champ.) - consolidated the win from leading 3-0 (79 & 87 mins)
19/03/23 v Grimsby (W 5-0 FA Cup QF) - consolidated the win from leading 3-0 (82 & 90 mins)
24/08/24 v Crawley (W 4-0 Lge Cup) - consolidated the win from leading 3-0 (84 & 86 mins)
27/08/24 v Liverpool (L 2-3 Lge Cup) - trying to comeback from 0-2 and 1-3 (81 & 90 mins)
09/11/24 v Manchester City (W 2-1 Prem.) - comeback win (78 & 83 mins)

So statistically if we score twice after the 75th minute we go onto win the game 93% of the time. 13 wins and 1 defeat. I think we'd take that 😊

I suppose in the interest of balance, on the other side of the coin, we've conceded a goal in the last 10 mins and then another in added on time, 6 times. Winning 1 (already winning), drawing 1 (already winning) and losing 4 (already losing in 3 and drawing the other).

21/02/15 v Birmingham City (W 4-3) we were leading 3-1 and 4-2 when we conceded (76th & 90+2 mins)
31/03/18 v Leicester City (L 0-2) draw to defeat (83rd & 90+6 mins)
13/04/19 v Bournemouth (L 0-5) we were losing 0-3 already (82nd & 90+2 mins)
08/05/23 v Everton (L 1-5) we were losing 1-3 already (76 & 90+6 mins) (only time either scenario has happened in the North goal)
26/10/24 v Wolves (D 2-2) we were leading 2-0 when we conceded (88th & 90+3 mins)
02/04/25 v Aston Villa (L 0-3) we were losing 0-1 already (78 & 90+10 mins)

We don't like Midlands teams by this logic!! 🤯

And, there have been 5 instances of us conceding 2 or more in the final 15 mins of games (75-90 only and not including added on time), going onto lose 4 of the 5 2 when leading and 2 when already behind and winning 1 when already ahead.

27/09/11 v Crystal Palace (L 1-3) we were leading 1-0 when we conceded (80th, 89th & 90th mins)
28/02/17 v Newcastle (L 1-2) we were leading 1-0 when we conceded (81st & 89th mins) the winner still sends shivers down my spine to this day, the one that had about 5 ricochets before somehow ending up in the top corner of the goal!!!)
02/12/17 v Liverpool (L 1-5) we were losing 1-3 already (87 & 89th mins)
20/01/18 v Chelsea (L 0-4) we were losing 0-2 already (77 & 89th mins)
28/12/23 v Spurs (W 4-2) we were leading 4-0 when we conceded (81 & 85th mins)

So the 11 occasions when conceding 2 or more after the 75th min, W2, D1, L8, means a 72.7% defeat incoming. So not all hope is lost in these cases. 🤞

Swindon second leg of the playoffs. Virgo scored a header in the last minute of added on time so 119 minutes.
Then we won on penalties.

So yesterday was the latest in a game we've equalised before going on to win :clap2:

(not inc extra time games)

What's missing from these are two goals cancelling each other out in the last few minutes, and beyond. I'm thinking of Solly's 95th minute equaliser against Man Utd here. Only to be undone by that penalty after the final whistle, so 90+6+something.....

Burnley !! It was my lad's very first match. He was 7 years old, and I just wanted something to happen so that he'd at least want to come back. Dreadful grey drizzly December Withdean day... we were awful and 0-2 down. Enter Steve Sidwell... two quick very late goals and we danced home !! My lad is now a 30 year old passionate Brighton fan.
