Did anyone watch the series thats just finished, set in the Austrian Alps & Switzerland?

I've never been a religious person, but have found the last couple of series fascinating, after stumbling across them by accident on BBC2. Apparently there have been quite a few series, so I'll have to look back at the others.

Listening to the 'celebs' talking openly about faith, beliefs, spirituality etc, while also walking through some spectacular scenery along ancient pilgrimage routes, has really made me think a lot about the things going on in my life - & question aspects of it that I maybe dont like, or finding hard to cope with.

Has anyone ever done a pilgrimage? Its such a simple concept, but one that seems to have been lost in the madness of modern society. I would love to lace up the old walking boots, or load the bike panniers, and just go off for a couple of weeks to find some peace, clarity, and breathing room for myself....

We stumbled across one episode of this series the other night – when it was Helen's birthday – and have dipped in and out of it in the past. Great programme with just the right blend of faith/religion, story, scenery and entertainment.

I am definitely not religious (the complete opposite in fact), but I saw the first series about the Camino and it was an interesting show. Something about being on such a journey in such beautiful scenery can really offer you some space to really clear your head and offer some perspective. I used to hike in the Austrian Alps a lot and I shall definitely be looking this show up on iPlayer.

I live in the Austrian Alps so every day is a pilgrimage for me!

I was disappointed by the spiritual side of the program as the participants focussed more on cultural aspects of their religion rather than the spiritual. They all seemed to be saying that they wanted to believe, without addressing why they believed what they believed.

Walking in the mountains is wonderful, and many of the religious buildings in Austria are awesome - but that doesn't mean that God exists, or if he does - which particular God exists.

I would love to lace up the old walking boots, or load the bike panniers, and just go off for a couple of weeks to find some peace, clarity, and breathing room for myself....

Do it. Stepping away from your day-to-day pressures, taking time to understand your priorities and see the big picture of your life is something well worth doing. Good luck.

I have added it to my watch list. Is it anything like the Real Marigold Hotel set in India? I really emitted that one.
