After years of reading his work and listening to him on BBC Radio, I finally got to meet him when I was invited to join the Boxing Writers Club and later served on the Club committee with him.

He also guested on the phone in both at Upton Park and when we played West Ham at the Withdean.

A Fleet Street legend and a true Gentleman.

RIP my friend ❤️

So many RIP threads on here are so obscure and meaningless.
Colin Hart however was a boxing legend.
Sad news indeed
I am not going to call this thread obscure and meaningless, I am not that crass. But I will say that I had not heard of Colin Hart, I hope he gets to rest easy.

Maybe you could be a bit less judgemental too.

Thank you old boy.

Because of this running joke about me and RIP threads I’d thought about not doing one as I knew him, but as you say it’s deserving, I’m especially gutted, we were sorting out a 90th birthday lunch for him next month in Little Italy, Soho, one of his favourite restaurants, and then sadly he was taken ill last month.

He had a soft spot for the Albion and was very supportive in the battle for the Amex.

I remember him from when I was a kid, the Bruno years. RIP

Seems a RIP is due for the Boxing Writers Club as well. What happened there?

Sometimes I totally agree with you.

The RIP threads are quite appropriate. I started one recently. Even if the person means something to only one other person on NSC, that's fine.

Very sad news after George Foreman yesterday.

Used to especially love him, Alan Hubbard and Jeff Powell sharing their crazy old time stories on BoxNation back in the 00's.

Colin, Jeff, Alan along with Buncey, Steve Lilis and Barry Jones on BoxNation was boxing gold.

RIP.

Edit: Alan Hubbard

Sadly old mate, print and broadcast media becoming a thing of the past*, we tried to reach out to the you tube/social media generation but to no avail.

On a positive note our last Dinner at the Savoy in October 2023, was reputed to be the best ever, speakers included Martin O’Neill, Johnny Fisher, Jim Rosenthal, Jimmy Tibbs and some idiot from the Worthing Herald😂.

Just got off the phone from a senior club member, we both agree the closure was fate, Colin was the club, he was our Caesar, he was the glue that kept us together, so to close on our own terms last year, was actually for the best, and with the £15,000 in the bank donated to the BBB of C Benevolent Fund 👍

*Back in the day all of the Fleet Street titles had a table each at the Savoy, all on expenses, the week before our last dinner there was a World Title fight in Manchester and only two national newspapers sent reporters, it’s all about freelance or social media 🤷‍♂️

Without wanting to sound too Limmy, I worked next to him for Joshua-Franklin and it was hilarious. Could have chatted with him for days. A reverential mensch.

We used to have committee meetings at The Bloomsbury Hotel, we used to pop over to the Duke of Cornwallis for a light lunch afterwards, I used to sit there mesmerised, he was one of the most interesting people I‘ve ever met in my life.

To anyone interested, Colin Hart's episode on Tris Dixon's 'Boxing Life Stories' is brilliant.

Tris and Colin talk about his life from childhood to present, telling some amazing stories along the way.

I listen to his pod on Apple but heres another link to it:
