[Football] Time For The "Bubble"?

Well THAT was fun last night, and no, not the football. With all the shenanigans going on off pitch, outside the ground, at the station and in town leads me to believe more draconian measures might be introduced for future Albion/Palace fixtures.

As with other tense derby matches I'm just wondering if a Bubble procedure will come into being. For those of you unaware of this operation it works like this :

(Based on past Saints/Pompey games) Away fans have to assemble at their own ground. All herded on to coaches/buses at pre-arranged time. Leave their ground in convoy under police escort to the away ground. Fans, whilst in transit, then allocated their match tickets. Escorted into the away section and then out at the end of the game. Repeat process for return trip back to home ground.

Fun isn't it? Oh, and the kick off time will probably be 12.00 on a Sunday.

Thought this thread was about Michael. Great singer, saw him in concert couple of years back. I just haven’t found you yet ! Seriously don’t think they were proper football fans just yobs looking for trouble, you get a lot of that in rough south London and Croydon

Hmm... from personal experience, and also judging from the BBS comments, not all CPFC fans are knuckle-draggers, most of them are decent folk just like most of us.

The 'bubble' idea would infringe on the liberty of the good while stimulating provocation towards the Year-9-Ultras - if they bothered to be bound by the arrangement which I doubt they would.

There is a reason why it happens elsewhere. It works and avoids the sort of crap that we all had to put up with last night.

Tough on a few hundred away fans who aren't there primarily to watch the football and a few more who don't live in their home town.

The better organised and hassle avoiding "Bubble" approach includes other measures to keep ticketless fans away e.g. using police intelligence (not an oxymoron apparently) to stop them travelling in the first place and then having a ticket checking cordon. You are not dealing with the SAS here in terms of fans determined and able to gain access come what may - they only need a decent deterrent to stop it.

I used to live a few miles from Selhurst. After the 5-0 debacle and being marched off in the opposite direction, I can see how infuriating this approach is. Imagine if you're a Palace fan studying at the uni - would you really have to travel all the way up to London to be bussed to a venue a couple of hundred metres from your home?

At the Amex, this would surely be very easy to enforce. Tend to agree it's better than the sledgehammer to crack a nut approach.

Why not use the riding stable parking at Pycombe that was used when trains weren't running. Only CPFC fans, and collect ticjets there, bus to ground and back, simplez?

The 'bubble' approach does work as your 'ticket checking cordon' prevents anyone on the other side of the fence access either to the bubbled fans or, as last night, the turnstiles themselves.
The most ridiculous bubble that I have heard of was Hull at Huddersfield, when Manchester-based Hull fans had to drive past Huddersfield then drive for over an hour to get to Hull.
Assembly points can be closer than the home town, for example Millwall at Leeds was at a motorway services on the M1.
I am sure that our go-ahead club could organise a second 'bubble' for 'North of Norwood' fans to accommodate those from the West, London and us from further North.
Having been through the 5-0 'kettle' in Norwood High Street (under police control until 6.15pm), all I want is certainty. The decision to go or not go is then up to the individual.

Exactly what happens for a Pompey mate based in North Hampshire. Drive past Southampton to get on the bus to get the ticket. Dropped back off in Portsmouth afterwards to return home, past Southampton. however they don’t have anything like last night because of it.
