Whatever Happened to Burlington Bertie?

I was having a natter with a mate of mine from Angmering last night and he reminded me of a strange character from the past who used to be seen all over Worthing/Brighton he was called (at least by us) as "Burlington Bertie", used to wear a straw hat, a monocle flannels and a variety of stripey blazers and was usually mincing about pushing a bike flicking V signs at passers by...what the f*** was that all about?? who was he, and where did he go??

Used to be a treat to go out in the car with parents and all the car would say "oooh theres that roundabout man!"

Mostly seen on Broadwater roundabout!
