Why are women not as good as non physical sports as men?

We all know why women can never compete with men in physical, contact sports like football etc. That's easily explained by the fact they're not as strong, fast etc but why can't women beat men at other, celebral or non physical sports? I just don't get it. I'm thinking chess; I'm thinking snooker, I'm thinking darts etc. Hardly need to be physically on top of the game to putt a snooker ball or two or to take a bishop on the chess board do you?
So why can't they do it as good as men?

I know there's bound to be an old feminist argument about women only recently being "allowed"in these hietherto male worlds but I just don't think that washes anymore. Perhaps it all comes down to the idea that men are just much more competitive and " anal" about winning?

Yes, there are some great female sporting achievements but they will never match those of men; will they?

Their brains are different. Those sort of sports have a mathematical slant to them and most women's brains do not work that way.

If there was a sport multitasking and speaking languages at the same time then women would beat men hands down.

Biologically womens hips do not allow them to throw in the same side on (ish) manner men do which is why most throw the way they do.

Yes but Ritchie, you don't need hips like Boris Becker to play chess do you?

I would agree that womens brains function differently and there hips are biologically different but I believe the main contributing factor is sponsorship money.

In particular women's snooker has recently lost it's main sponsor B&H and the top women's player Michelle Fisher has had to quit the game to play 9 ball in the States.

Even before the government legistaltion banning tobacco sposnorship Fisher was the only Pro Female snooker player in the UK and the sport wasn't very competitive because the other players couldn't afford to play and practice without working aswell.

Fisher was the only player who won enough prize money from tournaments to not need to supplement her income by other means.

I would imagine this is the same for darts and maybe to an extent chess.

(The above opinion was largley lifted from a BBC interview with Michelle Fisher)

I think sports like snooker, pool and darts are just not that appealing to women. They are traditionally seen as pub sports played by blokes, which women don't tend to devote much time to. Men tend to play them over a pint in the pub.

Perhaps that's why, pure lack of interest?

Next up, why men are crap at netball and aerobics!

So the likes of Mark Williams got to where he is today through playing the game down the pub?

Or is it the 8 hours a day of practice that got him to where he is?

You'll be hard pushed to find a full time darts player!

Women are far better at topless darts anyway. I've never seen a man win that one yet!

Men crap at netball? At college we used to play football team vs netball tea, and we alsways beat them by about 50 goals.

Gymnastics? Do you not watch the olympics?

Sorry aerobics not gymnastics...my bad.

Erm, because they dont want to look girlie? My old footy club used to have aerobics sessions and everyone would start by not really going for it, then by the end would be great at it once they had realised it was hard and not just a girlie alternative to the gym.

Men are geeks. We have an absurd obsessive compulsion with statistics on one subject or another. Even though i consider myself an occasional artist, i still cannot escape my programming. So i sit and study 3 fantasy football leagues all week long to prove my dominance.

Basically, we're bloody idiots looking to fill time with minutae.

Gymnastics- hey now we're talking. Male Olympic gymnasts are extremely fit, and actually worth watching, as opposed to the 13 year old female entrants, clad in sequinned leotards and 2 inches of make up.....

Maybe its down to common sense - they realise that darts and snooker are utterly pointless, tedious games

Paula Radcliffe was the fastest British marathon runner last year - including men. She's got to be one of the greatest athletes we've ever produced.

I can only assume that's Allison Fisher mate. She came to the fore at my local club (Deluxe Snooker Club in Hastings) that produced many professional players Peter Daubney, Paul Davis, Mark David, Rob Marshall, to name a few. She was a great snooker player many years ago and very pretty (although wore comfortable shoes if you know what I mean). She was the first UK lady snooker pro and used to practice with a friend of mine Duncan Moore who got close but never quite made Pro. She won the ladies world title 7 times between 85 and 94. Though a pioneer of the ladies game here she went stateside and has won the ladies 9 ball title in the US. I guess because there is simply a better living to be made.
