Most websites won't pay the $4500 for media server though so it won't make a huge difference.

The only thing I feel I am missing out on with not having flash is access to seagulls player on the ipad which would be rather nice.

Shouldn't NSC be closed down for a period of time, to enable us all to properly contemplate and absorb this news ?

Seagulls player DOES work on an ipad using photon web browser, even the live commentary. As long as you have wifi. Live commentary on 3G cuts out frequently, I've found.

Sounds to me they are trying to keep their Flash customers, rather than doing Apple a 'favour'

What was the reason for this?

It's very buggy and it hogs allot of memory. Apple didn't want their apps/browser crashing constantly as the chances are the end user would lay the blame firmly at apple's door.

Would seem that this latest development only appears to affect flash video and not sites. Is the seagulls world site fully flash based or is it just the videos?

That said I can't see many sites wanting to stump up the $4.5k for the software in the first place as surely most things (porn aside) are available on YouTube which has a native app??

And I'm using the Skyfire browser on the iPod Touch and it works for a lot of sites (not all, but quite a few).

Skyfire is an app for iPhone and iPod Touch. Its essentially a web browser, so an alternative to Safari. Except that on a lot of flash sites, it will stream the video to your device. Not all sites, but a lot.

Its £1.99, less than the price of a piglets pie.

no thats not the reason. though i agree whole heartedly there are problems with Flash resource managment, more due to developers than Flash itself. the real reason for Apple blocking Flash was so that they could control distribution of apps through their App store. web pages with Flash driven games and apps bypass all that, so no money for St Steve to buy turtlenecks.

Well I'm sure there is an element of truth in that statement but why haven't the developers flocked towards the accepted alternatives? Because no money for "St Steve" means no money for the devs either!
