Glentoran win appeal against Leon Knight Twitter case ban
Glentoran have successfully appealed against Leon Knight's three-match ban for comments he made on Twitter.
The controversial and much-travelled striker was the first Irish League player to be suspended for comments made on a social networking site.
The case related to Knight's time as a Coleraine player, but he then moved to Belfast club Glentoran.
Knight will now be free to play for the Glens in Saturday's Premiership clash against Cliftonville at the Oval.
The striker left Coleraine after the Bannsiders said they would not continue to pay his travel costs from London.
"We argued that, although the club accepts what he did was totally unacceptable, no guidelines had ever been issued regarding social media," said Glentoran chairman Aubry Ralph.
"Also we were being punished for something Leon Knight did whilst at another club, and there are many other Irish League players using Twitter in an inappropriate manner and not being penalised.
"We are delighted the ban has been overturned, although he does have a suspended £500 fine and is aware that any further misuse of Twitter will, I imagine, result in a hefty suspension."

Leon Knight is a very talented footballer. Some of the goals he scored for BHA took your breath away. To take a penalty, in front of 70,000 and score the way he did, took some brass. Nearly 30 goals in the Coppell / McGhee promotion winning season.
Cocky, confident, arrogant, brash, cocksure, opinionated, full of himself, argumentative, short-fused, fool-hardy, petulant and disruptive.....take your pick.
Yes, he hasn't made the most of his undoubted talent but show me a room full of people and three quarters of them will fit this category. The difference is, most of us never truly discover what we are best at and spend the best part of our lives going through the motions.
Leon has had that opportunity and hasn't made the most of it. He should have played at a higher level and for longer.
But, hey-ho, shit happens...I just prefer to remember those fleeting moments of brilliance in our shirt and look forward to the day that RR interviews him on the pitch at the Amex. Now that will be worth the entrance money alone!
