The Bar is (rightly)up in arms about the attempted Telegraph smear on Starmer’s record as a KC. Everyone is entitled to a defence.

Tories trying to smear Starmer? Surely not? ???

Well done the lawyers for calling this out.

The problem with those who oppose Starmer is they only see headlines. Front page splashes of Starmer frees dangerous criminals.
The tiny apology weeks later, on page 6, won’t register.

There are still fools believing he was holding a beer and pizza party in Durham, and ‘got away with it’.

I know. It has always annoyed me how telling lies in the press gulls people into a position, it all eventually becoming a tsunami of confirmation bias. However I'm more relaxed about it now than I was back in the days of "GLC bans Baa Baa Black Sheep".

I may have mentioned recently how my cleaner responded when I mentioned some of our poor overseas students, who are being messed about by a system that won't let them reapply for a visa until the summer results are published, then the visa is often not granted in time for the start of the next term, and many of them are losing their accommodation and suffering from medically significant stress and depression, and all for the top whack £18,000 a year in fees. Her reply was "well they bring all their families over".

There is no point worrying about how a Mail/Sun reading working class tory will respond to all this dog whistle nonsense. My feeling is they are predisposed to certain prejudices, and their minds won't change. One can but hope they become so convinced that the election is 'rigged' that they won't bother to vote.

I am equally annoyed with supposedly educated people, like some I know, who are refusing to vote labour because Starmer has 'betrayed socialism'.

Hopefully the concerned 'middle' will have sufficient wallop to generate a working majority for the more deserving of the two leading parties.

The major difference, of course, being the processing of them taking place but allowing them back, rather than essentially just deporting them to be someone else’s problem

Still a fully paid up member of the Conservatives after this last 4 years of Johnson, Truss and Sunak, Titanic ?

#anythingtokeepthecabalinpower

The chances of the present 'cabal' staying in power are slim to none. I have long expected little or nothing of any significance from them, and I haven't been disappointed.

I'm not sure I understand why, if you have had no faith in the leadership for a long time, and as you've said before, absolutely no ability to do anything about it, why you remain a member ? I remember when you had the choice of Truss or Sunak, and didn't want either.

I do wonder what the point of being a member is and why you would keep paying membership for an organisation you have no faith in and can't change

I bet the girls and boys can’t wait to meet him, if any of them have any questions they’ll have to be sure the question is on the pre approved list or else….
And if any of the present incumbents turned up, the boys and girls could make up any old shit as that’s all the lying bastards would come up with.
