Big old week ahead - let's get the Amex rocking like tonight for Weds and help pick the players up. Huge game against Villa - 3 points needed and if we can somehow get a sneaky win at the dustbin of football next Saturday then a major European competition is ours for the taking. Come on everyone - heads up.

You don't get into Europe for winning a Quarter Final.
You don't get into Europe for winning a Semi Final.
You do get into Europe through finishing high enough in the league.

The table hasn't changed because we lost a penalty shootout.
We still have a great chance of success.

How about the players doing something to lift the fans after that disappointing performance
like actually playing well in a big match

The table hasn't changed but the fitness of the squad may have after 120 minutes and penalties. As luck will probably have it Villa will glide thru after 90, perhaps even resting key players after 60. Then McGinn and Cash can sharpen their kicking instincts for Wednesday.

Well...I can't lift myself for Wednesday. If the players can't lift themselves for the biggest game of the season so far why get excited about the visit of Villa. This club needs a domestic trophy for identity. We are getting ourselves into challenging positions and then not taking advantage. Winning the FAC gets you into the Europa League. We will not qualify for that via our league placings.
This was our chance in the Cup. We blew it. Sure...we dust ourselves down like always but ' get the Amex rocking'...why wasn't it rocking last night? The fans mirrored the players...nervous..edgy and flat. Everyone had an off night.
Younger fans see it as a missed opportunity but there will be more. Older fans know we have to grab those chances when they come. We won't always be riding high like now. Football changes.
Ask Newcastle if Europe is more important than a domestic trophy. 300,000 out on the streets yesterday gives you the answer. After 124 years of nothing...I want something....and I'm worried our friends from SE19 are going to beat us to it.

That’s about how I see it , this was our chance to win a cup , and we didn’t turn up

Guys, we are unbeaten in 8 games and are closer to being a top 4 team than we have ever been.
We are a club on the up but have no divine right to win any football match. Yes, yesterday was disappointing but let’s have a little perspective too.

Disagree. It was a really really tough game against an excellent side after an international break that clearly took it's toll - sometimes you don't play your best or dominate, there are two teams on the pitch but I felt the players never stopped, never gave up and somehow ended the stronger of the two teams and lost on a coin toss. We are all gutted but we can either a) give up or b) go again and see where it takes us - you going for option a then?

Everyone worked their arses off against a really, really good opponent.

This may have been "our chance in the cup", but that goes for Nottingham as well. Both teams were playing on all cylinders and it was intense, sloppy, rowdy.
People speak as if we lost 3-0 against a bottom team rather than playing a very even game against a team that is 3rd in Premier League after 29 games.

Indeed.

And every week is a massive week in the EPL.
It's just that a lot of our fanbase doesn't realize it.

I thought the Amex was REALLY rocking last night - some incredible noise. Sure, as the attritional nature of the game continued there were the odd quieter spots for both sets of fans but I thought it was an excellent atmosphere - everyone gave it their all, just wasn't to be.

I'd be staggered if there's anything left for the next 2 games now with both opponents on a high assuming Villa win today.

To have no cover at fullback, lose Rutter and Webster too, I can't see this being anything other than a dismal week capped off with a hiding at Selhurst. Hope to God I'm wrong

How did the North sound from your spot, the North 9 were definitely making a racket, being between them and the nsk was even more difficult to choose what songs to join in with but I guess the overal noise was louder..?

Lot of people getting carried away ....

If we had won we would have had to get past 2 of city, villa , palace and bmuff. And out of those we've won 3 of 6 so far this season. So it was still a lottery with the odds stacked against.

I hope Preston makes it tough for Villa today. They're still in the CL as well and will definitely be dropping points in the Premier League. We, on the other hand, will go into the league games with 100% motivation.

I'm highly optimistic about our league run in general and somewhat optimistic about the Villa game. The Palace one does have some potential to be utterly shit...
