Five-part series The Stolen Girl, with Holliday Grainger and Denise Gough, is beginning on 16th April soon on Disney+.

It tells the story of mum Elise whose nine-year-old Lucia daughter excitedly asks to go on an overnight playdate with her new best friend Josie. After meeting Josie’s mother, Rebecca, she’s put at ease by her charming nature and their impressive house. But when she says goodnight to her daughter, she has no idea that she is about to be thrust into every parent’s worst nightmare.

The next day, when Elisa goes to pick up Lucia, she discovers that the beautiful house was a holiday rental. Lucia is missing. Rebecca and Josie have vanished. What started out as her daughter’s first sleepover has turned into an abduction.

As an urgent manhunt unfolds across Europe, Elisa and her husband Fred find themselves the object of police and public scrutiny. Elisa’s perfect family begins to unravel under the pressure, and long-buried secrets come to light. Rebecca took Lucia for a reason. And as viewers learn more about the tangled lives of these women we will wonder if Rebecca was justified in kidnapping the little girl – and whether she might be better off staying hidden.

I find previews like this really annoying. I feel I know what the whole thing is about now, without the pleasure of having my emotions manipulated as the story slowly unfolds on the screen in front of me. And I only read the start of that. Same with some movie trailers. I can choose not to watch them online but I can't escape them in the cinema. With some of them you get an entire summary of the film. I can never bring myself to watch something that I've already seen a lengthy trailer for as all the unpredictability has gone.

There is a great surgery prog on The Beeb that spends the first 5 mins of the show with clips of what's about to come up. What's that all about?

You get it at the end of quite a lot of serials as well. The preview of what's to come in the next episode, almost always including spoilers. We have to dive for the remote to stop it before it gives too much away.

Anyway, on an unrelated side note, that's me done with NSC for a while. Time to take some time out again. Maybe things will have improved by next season (something I say every year when I re-enrol).
