I'm assuming that this a long-term investment? I would be less inclined to worry about the short-term shitfest created by Trump if you're investing over several years.

It is, but I'd prefer not to start with a massive loss. I'm thinking cautious investment for now, and move it to more adventurous when things improve

On that note, I need to invest my daughters LISA into stocks and shares. That's a risky thing to do with Emperor Trump in power, so can anyone suggest a market that might be relatively safe from him? (I would just get a cash LISA, but the money is with a platform that don't do them).

I can't think of any market that's safe from Trump at the moment.
Within a stocks/funds Isa one can purchase Money Market Funds (MMFs) which basically hold cash accounts and short term bonds. These are considered fairly safe (at least I hope so because I moved money into them a year ago!). They have been performing similarly to Cash ISA s the past couple of years, say 5% per year.

Available from Fidelity, Invesco,L&G, Black Rock...
I AM NOT AN ADVISOR, PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH FIRST 😬.

Anyway, I'm hoping they're a safer haven, hoping things may calm down at some point.

EDIT: Can you transfer the LISA to another platform that offers Cash LISAs ?

This is spot on and what he loves. In his mind he’ll be sitting on his throne whilst droves of foreign leaders fall at his feet, begging for tariffs to be removed.
Egonomics.
I misread this. Thought you said ergonomics. Imagined the world economy had just been thrown into a death spiral because the orange gimp’s chair is too far from his desk and he’s all grouchy about it.

A year ago this week we were in Cambodia, a country poor even by SE Asia standards. Trump has levied tariffs of 49% on them. I doubt there is a single thing the Cambodian people can do to reverse any trade deficit so it is a conscious decision to make poor people poorer in pursuit of the MAGA cult. I would be interested to hear how those evangelical Christians who were so enthusiastic about his election justify this in light of the teachings of Jesus about how to treat the poor and needy. Meantime I guess Cambodia will fall even more into the influence of China. Shocking.

That’s also entirely possible! Though in that scenario would imagine he’d simply use Vance’s back as his desk.

Some interesting perspectives raised on LBC about the tariffs, they have little to do with US manufacturing or jobs.

In reality its a fealty to Trump tax, and they will be removed sufficiently by those who bow the knee or publicly praise Trump etc. Sort of similar to what Putin and Orban both did in gaining full dictatorial control of all their countries institutions.

In Putin/Orbans case, its pay us a % and stay out of politics and all will go well for you.

Not even Trump could be so brazen as to ask for a % of profits, but apply huge penalising leverage, then we'll remove Tariffs for you specifically if you do X.Y or Z for the dear leader and all will go well for you.

That is the real intent.

You think Tesla or Space X related international suppliers will be levied? no chance.

So, for example, Denmark can have zero tariffs if you give us Greenland sort of thing (yeah,EU I know 😉)
