As Alan Sugar says, this will likely be reversed within the next few months and presented by Trump as a win. I believe he is acting like a King, wanting to see who his friends and enemies are globally.

And those panicking about their investments, I would say hold the nerve. The worst thing you can do is jump out AFTER the bad thing has happened - confirming a loss, at the moment it's all hypothetical. Obviously we don't know yet how much further it may fall, but chances are we have seen the biggest fall already. Obviously cannot confirm that, but when you look at previous similar(ish) falls, the majority happens right at outset.

Unless you need the funds in the next 6-12 months, I would suggest the best thing is to hold tight and ride it out - that's what history has generally shown us.

Who'd be the UK equivalent of Loomer .... a combination of Icke/LeTissier/Yaxley? With free access to Downing Street decision making.
And noshing off the leader. Allegedly.

This could get very messy.
And guess who the winners will be, Trumps rich buddies who knew all about it before hand and have made billions during the drop and will be ready to invest at the bottom when Trump tell them to as he will change his mind in a couple of weeks times and the market will jump up so they double their gains.

confused, isn't it? heard yesturday there is a subtext to this that squares the circle, many in US got very concerned about dependencies on China and elsewhere during covid. reshoring to some is about security.

Also my concern, he is being very laid back or is he just being smart? Rubbing that buffoon up the wrong way is not a great idea.

Starmer hasn't yet proven himself a negotiating genius, but he also hasn't messed up yet. It wouldn't actually be possible to do the former quickly, because Trump would just get angry and lash out at anyone not going along with his wishes. Starmer is right to wait before making decisions, which also allows time to observe what happens with other countries.

Act in haste, repent at leisure. Glad he's being cagey.

FTSE100 down 4%. S & P futures looking horrible.....

The US is Brexitting from the world
Its one f***ing idiot, riddled with hatred and spite, who has been put in a position way over his ability. No one in his party can stand against him or appear " disloyal ' and be sacked and ridiculed. Decent Republicans have to try and stand up and end the madness or the World economy will go back to trading in beads.

I think the real problem that every government around the world has is how seriously to take these tariffs, because with the stroke of a pen they're gone. They could be gone tonight, or tomorrow or June 26th. Who knows. It could happen at any time, for any or no reason. So how do you build a response to it? How do you agree a deal? It might be that if enough World leaders basically ignored the tariffs, or helped out their industries to off-set the short term pain, how long would it take for Trump to have to backtrack?

I think we would be better off just sitting it out and waiting out Trump. How long will Americans be happy to go without coffee, or by paying hugely over the odds for it? Hawaii can't produce enough coffee to ensure the supply chain won't be disrupted, so that's going to be a massive hit to regular consumers.

What evidence did Amstrad Alan present to support his theory? That’s not how Trump’s brain works.

He’s believed in this shit for a long time, and he has grandiose delusions of his own genius. So, yes, he’s already claiming it’s “working” but towards what end I dread to think.

A more likely outcome is that he blames other world leaders for not capitulating to him in the way he wants.

Then he’ll get vindictive and start doubling down.

Got a whiff of the Truss budget about it all.

"No no no the budget is fine, it's that pesky establishment and whatnot causing all the problems"

Matter of fact what is it with economic policy and surnames that begin with "Tru" ?

Maniacs. All both of them.
