[Albion] Eiran Cashin [31/01/25: sings a 5 1/2 year deal]

Cashin himself said that the step up to P/L is much bigger than anyone imagines. He said that training was at a completely different level to anything he'd experienced so far.

I guess Tony thinks he will make the step up, but it'll take a while.

I get the impression he’s one that we’ve bought for what he might develop into, rather than what he is.

Which I normally don’t mind, but with him already in his mid-twenties, it feels like there has to be more of a near-immediate “step” than with most of our young signings.
Also played 100+ games for Derby at Championship level, he’s not a raw kid we’ve plucked from nowhere in the way some of our other signings have been, of course it’s a step up but others have come from further back to make it work (e.g. Gomez)

No, he has participated in 39 Championship games, playing 3,059 minutes in total, which equals 34 games.

Fair enough, a misreading of the numbers on my part, but the point stands he’s not the absolute youngster many of our signings have been, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect better

While he is indeed a bit older and more experienced than many of the young players we bring in, he also is a CB which along with GK is the positions where PL (and other big league players) have the highest average among the starters. I'd say buying a 23-year-old CB is a bit like buying a 20/21-year-old winger. Yes, its a little late to the party in a game where the most talented teenagers in some positions get to play a fair bit of football at 18-19, but "late bloomers" (if you can call a 23-year-old that) eventually being successful are far from unheard of.

Somebody suggested on the Baleba CB thread (post #58) that Cashin didn't arrive at the ground on time. Quite a big deal if true
You would have thought that with a chance for your first PL start you would have arrived at breakfast time rather than late.

At least consistent from Fabin, as Minteh was dropped from the starting eleven for being late earlier in the season.

I want you to be right on this, and I’m certainly not going to write him off, because positioning can count for more than pace.

However, I watch the way we play with everyone pushed up, and I can’t help but think we need pace to be a characteristic of our back line, otherwise we will always be one ball over the top from being carved open.

I’m not imagining it am I? We are largely playing with the back line pushed up high?

I'm gonna get the "everyone in Brighton knows everything about everyone"-people up my arse now but I find it highly unlikely, and certainly seen a connection between "bad" players and malicious rumours over the years.

I call horseshit that this guy would be late for the biggest moment of his career. I'm not sure the lad is a great footballer, but my impression of his interviews is that he is a very sensible and grounded man.

The post in question has been edited to say it was a joke

As an aside, he was warming up right in front of me yesterday (my temporary, chemo patient friendly seat in the accessible area WSL) and his thighs and calves are huge! I reckon one of his thighs is wider than my admittedly slightly medically ravaged torso (maybe…)
