UK Supreme court rules legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex. Won't be the end of the matter
Okay but what part of biological sex?

Their chromosomes? What gametes they produce? What genitalia they are born with? What their brain says they are?

Each of these are biological in nature, but will result in different people being classified as women.

It's not a simple topic despite what some people will say.

Apparently, it is self-explanatory.

Ruling says the concept of sex is binary

In an 88-page ruling, Lord Hodge, Lady Rose and Lady Simler said: "The definition of sex in the Equality Act 2010 makes clear that the concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man.

"Persons who share that protected characteristic for the purposes of the group-based rights and protections are persons of the same sex and provisions that refer to protection for women necessarily exclude men.

"Although the word 'biological' does not appear in this definition, the ordinary meaning of those plain and unambiguous words corresponds with the biological characteristics that make an individual a man or a woman.

"These are assumed to be self-explanatory and to require no further explanation.

"Men and women are on the face of the definition only differentiated as a grouping by the biology they share with their group."

The judge was very clear in saying that everyone still has protection under the law. This merely clarifies that when the Equality Act (2010) refers to women it is referring to females.

I saw some women celebrating the result, seemingly convinced they can keep trans women outside of certain areas like toilets, which is not what the ruling says.

Intersex people don't exist then.

There's nothing self explanatory about it.

Can you define a female in such a way that it encompasses every single individual whilst excluding any non-females from the group?

According to be science I have been reading there are is going to be lots of people that do not fit into this. It is not binary as there are too many variables that determine sex.

the overriding point of this was to confirm sex doesnt equate to gender. changing gender does not lead to changing legal sex for purpose of interpreting the Equalities act, which was vague on the matter.

this was brought up in Scotland as a consequence of their extremely liberal gender change rules, that allowed people to change based on self-certified, 6mth period of living as opposite gender.

It's a bit log but at least watch the first 15 minutes as the science is explained pretty well.

For goodness sake, people with disorders of sexual development make up about 1% of the population, and even they are either male of female (generally configured to produce small gametes or large gametes).
