Lancing
when Brighton are not playing I will either go to watch Worthing, Lewes or Lancing depending upon which team is playing at home bit miffed that I left it to late and didn’t secure two tickets for Mondays 21 sellout Worthing v Dorking and with only two games to go and Worthing sitting in second a trip up to Enfield on the 26/04/2025 would have been on the cards but with Brighton at home to WHU at the same time

I’m really glad I committed to the Dorking game a few weeks ago and bought our tickets. Really looking forward to it.

Clydebank aren't up yet as they still have to negotiate the Lowland League play-off. Three-match round robin play-off between Clydebank (West of Scotland Football League winners), East of Scotland Football League winners (Musselburgh Athletic, 10 points clear with 5 to play) & South of Scotland Football League winners (Newton Stewart top with one to play, however, Lochar Thistle in 5th have 5 games left so 4 of the top 5 can still win the league).
A friend of mine has this week moved to Brora. A village 50 miles north of Inverness. They are a play off away from League 2 in the Scottish pyramid. I believe they have a play off against the bottom placed team.

Spot on Mike. Spoken to a fair few people who were at the ground today and it seemed like the trouble came from a few 16 year olds who thought they were in Green Street, but was dealt with quickly by the stewards. Sam Beard is also was also a silly boy after the whistle went and it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a ban.

The fact of the matter is the majority of the 3600 there today behaved themselves but I imagine next time it will be segregated.

Will add to this from my viewpoint and seeing how things panned out throughout the afternoon, not a single one of the group of young adults (definitely around the 16-20 age bracket) who decided to attack the Eastbourne fans was a face I've ever seen at a Worthing game before - many of the regulars who I go to games with week in, week out said the same thing. They spent more of the first half goading the Borough fans behind the goal than they did actually watching the game, and clearly had come along just for causing trouble. Clocked they'd moved from where they were stood on the barrier in front of our singing section at the start of the second half, and next time I spotted them was when things kicked off behind the goal. As far as I'm concerned, they're not welcome at Woodside because that's not what we're about as a fanbase.

Seeing that and hearing the stories of rocks being thrown and car winscreens being broken took the shine off what in the end was a well fought point for us for me. Seeing the replay back I think the sending off for Racine was harsh, but I can't say I'm shocked it happened. He's looked completely off the pace since coming out of retirement and he's sailed close to the wind of a sending off already in previous games - baffling decision from Aggy to start him yesterday as we all said he would be a liability for us. Great response from the team to rally with 10 men to take the lead, and did well to hold on at the end when the legs were clearly starting to go from under them. Regardless of if his actions after FT were noted , Beard will still be a big loss going forward if we have to go through the Play-Offs, as his booking was his 15th of the season.

Circling back to what allowed the events of first paragraph to happen. Like it or not at Non-League level once at Step 2, there are occasions when the size of the overall crowd and potential away following should be when a club thinks about putting in segregation - it's why basically every away game Torquay have played this season has been segregated, Salisbury segregate all their home games because of the bad reputation of their fans etc. Given the stakes of yesterday's game this late in the season and the sellout crowd, it should absolutely have been segregated, but Borough prioritised the profits of a sellout and massively got that wrong. Hopefully a lesson learned from said mistake - it's something we had to learn the hard way and Worthing's hierarchy have now got that right in terms of the setup for segregation, number of stewards around the ground (backed up by a private security firm if necessary) etc after 3 season at this level.

Positive I'm taking is that it's back in our hands again for the title after Truro's loss, but we've been there before in the last month so I'm not getting ahead of myself at all. So much could change over the final 180 minutes of the season to play.

I know. It’s crazy isn’t it.

I disagree. For a lot of people a matchday consists of many different elements. Yes, for some it’s watching 90 minutes of football without once taking their eyes off the pitch, for others it might be escaping from a nagging partner or badly behaved kids, it might be a chance to get out for some fresh air, it might be the only opportunity to meet up with friends, it could be an escape from a mundane or stressful job or they could simply have an alcohol dependency the list is endless.

Live and let live eh?

Well written Vatican.

Borough have experience in segregation from their time in the Conference, however since the new chairman has come along a lot of the people who were involved in the club for years are not there anymore, at least not in their role. I think next time it will be segregated for sure.

I know I’m probably deemed a dinosaur by some, but this on line ticket issue is always going to cause issues, right up until it sold out on Wednesday, anyone regardless of their specific postcode could go on the EB website and buy multiple tickets.

I‘m not convinced that Dorking will just have the 600 away tickets they’ve been sold, as the Worthing website sold all the tickets on line, first come first served.

Was there anything wrong with selling tickets over the counter to fans who queued up?

One of the endearing features of Non League football is that it’s just that, not the EPL or the EFL, the clubs end up creating issues by apparently trying to imitate the big boys when it comes to ticketing.

To add my tuppence worth as someone who attended yesterday and was a complete neutral that has no affiliation or axe to grind with either side......

We got to the ground at 2:45, longish queue snaking around the old outside pitch but it was moving pretty quickly to start with and we got to where the queue was split into three (one for each of the open turnstiles) probably within about 5 minutes. For some reason it then ground to a halt. Lots of talk in queue about whether kick off would be delayed. 2:55 we hear the teams come out and it's obvious that it wouldn't be to everyone apart from one Worthing fan who was insistent they would delay kick off. Another Worthing fan in the group then compared it to Hillsborough, not sure how it was like Hillsborough people were queueing in an orderly fashion. Aforementioned Worthing mush boldly predicted that kick off would be delayed until at least 3:20, no sooner had those words left his mouth the whistle went for kick off which prompted much sniggering by everyone in the queue but then prompted said mush to claim it was a disgrace and he'd been queuing for an hour. If he'd been queueing for an hour then he was a dickhead as we'd only been waiting 15 minutes. The rest of the Worthing fans in the queue were quite funny, although the "shit town, no pier" chant is probably quite a good one in Borham Wood or Dorking, doesn't really work in Eastbourne.

Credit to the stewards on the gate, they could see people were getting a bit aggy as the game had kicked off so they let people use the two other turnstiles which were for juniors and comps (why this needed two seperate turnstiles I don't know) to let your run of the mill punter in. As it was they didn't even check our tickets. Think we missed the first 5 or 6 minutes so not the end of the world.

The first half was pretty dire up until the sending off. Worthing probably had the better of the play and the two black lads they had up top were a right handful but they kept trying to walk it in. Won't comment on the sending off as I was following the ball, looked like the lino gave it though. Lad that got sent off got a bit of stick as he trotted off. He looked like he wanted to give some back but there was lots of kids about and he refrained. Worthing going down to 10 spurred Eastbourne on for about 5 minutes but then they went completely in their shells, created very little and Worthing took a deserved lead before the break.

As we were late in we didn't bother trying to get a beer in the first half but decided to join the queue for the bar in the bottom right corner at the start of half time. The queue was back to pretty much the goal but again it appeared to be moving quite quickly so we decided to stick with it. The bar ran out of gas so the only beer they had on draft was Guinness so bottles were frantically sourced from the club house, which then had to be decanted into plastic glasses. I felt sorry for the young lad who appeared to be in charge of said bar and credit to him he did come down the queue and tell people the situation but he probably would have been better off serving to be honest.

Consequently I watched most of the second half from the queue as we got served with about 20 minutes left of the game. Eastbourne were a different team, they'd been completely blunt in front of goal in the first half but deservedly got the equaliser and were the most likely to get the winner. Worthing keeper mate a great save from a point blank header. Worthing did have one decent chance which was dragged wide, the rest of their chances were really poor. Something about shooting into that goal maybe?? Eastbourne had one more great chance where their player somehow headed over from being practically on the goal line with an open goal in front of him. I'd like to see it again as the defender may well have got a touch.

Won't comment on the trouble on or off the pitch, was too far away to see what happened in both cases.

Enjoyed it, wasn't a classic game but given what was at stake not really surprising. Draw was probably a fair result IMO. Eastbourne will think they should have won the game with the chances they created in the second half but credit to Worthing playing that long with 10 men they deserved something from the game.

Great to see so many people supporting non league football.

Oh just remembered one more thing.....Eastbourne's short corner routine...WTF is that all about?? Quite liked it though!

For those of you not there think Le Tissier's goal where he flicks the ball up from a free kick and then volleys it in. Basically that but for a cross from a corner.

Play off against the Lowland League champions East Kilbride, then the winner v League 2's bottom club...more than likely to be Bonnyrigg Rose FC.

It was bizarre. They seemed to abandon it during the second half as it wasn’t working.
