Back in East Sussex
The sending off was a Worthing playing elbowing a Boro player in the face for no obvious reason. It would have been a very red card in the premier league. As usual, with 10 men Worthing then played better and scored. Cur the flare and the exciting trip across the pitch for the fire warden.

Second half was nearly all Boro, but they just couldn't score. A header near the end would have been easier to score than fire half a mile over the crossbar, but that's what happened. It felt somewhat familiar.

I saw the very minor crowd trouble, a fist thrown in amongst the Eastbourne crew. No idea if there was a Worthing fan at either end of it, I was too far away. Similar aggro at the end in the centre of the pitch with the management team. EB should have managed to win the game, but didn't - Worthing are top of the league and much happier (until Dorking beat them on Monday).

It took a looooong time to get in the ground and I didn't even think of trying to get a beer. The queues were around a 35 minute wait. But apart from the result a good match.

Worthing did question Eastbourne about no segregation as soon as the tickets went on sale, Borough’s reply was “Well you didn’t segregate us back in December”, Worthing were 5th and Borough 9th and only bought 200 fans from East Sussex to civilisation 😂

Segregation would have been complete over kill. The biggest aggro was on pitch at the end. The kerfuffle in the crowd was nothing really.

The positive is, with 180 minutes of football left for all the contenders, to quote the late, great Brian Moore “It really is up for grabs now”. ⚽👍

Main winners today were Dorking. Big game Monday, though I’ll be 16 miles along the coast for another big game!
Yes indeed. They're right up there as well.

Whilst it's all a case of ifs, buts and maybes, Dorking would've been top on GD if they hadn't conceded a 90+12 equaliser at Bath last Saturday.

With the worst GD of the top 8, you'd have to think that Worthing will need nothing less than those 2 wins for the title and automatic promotion.

It was quite entertaining and respect to Worthing for playing for 10 men for so long. I would observe that Cashman needs to stop being the pound shop Grealish. I can forgive the Alice band but he spent most of the second half trying to hoist up and turn over his shorts for the ladies. Bizarre

Lengthy delays to enter the stadium due to peeps not having the QR code ready on their phones , a pretty dull first half but after the break EB took the initiative and made Worthing work for their point . Lucus Covolan pulled off some outstanding saves but EB had enough chances to seal a victory .
Have to say that hurling smoke bombs onto a pitch is not very clever particularly on 3g where burns could cause expensive damage and even the abandonment of the match .
All in all an entertaining afternoon and of course the 2 sides could yet meet again in the playoffs . We shall see

What prep weren't you happy with?

This is the queue from the one set of turnstiles that were open at 14:00.

This is the queue for a beer I joint as soon as I got in to the ground.

I got served at beer at about 15:30.

No segregation, their fans scrapping themselves, Worthing fans letting off flares, nearly fights in the beer queue.

This is Worthing’s third ever season at this level but the set up is so, so far clear of what I saw at Eastbourne today.

Can’t say anything about today but I was at Worthing v Torquay this season and, while it was very well organised, the segregation made it feel like a shit League Two game.

Took me till 3.40 to get a beer at Lewes V Whitehawk last season. Luckily queuing in sight of the pitch.

Either experience not exactly the free flowing pints and friendly atmosphere promoted on the Non League thread yet both were good days out.

All in all, an encounter that was as fiery as was promised to be. Think Worthing will be by far the happier side with the result with how the game panned out and their league position.

First on the red card: It was a clear elbow from Racine and 100% a red. It baffles me that someone who has so much experience would do something so idiotic, and ultimately poor from someone who even has managerial experience at that level.

Ultimately Borough Just weren’t finding themselves first to anything and lacking conviction. Punished by Worthing in the end. Lacking experience? I think so.

Borough got the equaliser, and the game probably ended with a deserved point for both sides.

Onto segregation though: It was questioned by everyone pre-game and the possibility of it “kicking off” was always there, and ultimately the powers that be at Borough will have to question whether prioritising profit over safety was worth it. Seen posts from Borough fans with their kids leaving in tears due to feeling unsafe, and that’s appalling to see.

My view on it is that Worthing have somewhat become the “trendy” club to support down in Sussex (and full credit to them, brilliantly ran with great people) but ultimately for the 49 good people you bring through the door there will inevitably be one idiot. My understanding is the crowd issue was Worthing coming towards the Borough lot (though not sure of full extent). Both clubs will inevitably be punished by the league and rightly so.

A decent day out, but think Borough will certainly have to look to those shelved stadium expansion plans a little bit before holding some more high stakes games with a big crowd (hopefully with them as a National League side next season! Though likely via play offs…).

Disagree Danny stayed on his feet when he easily could have gone down when kicked all over the shop. He put a real shift in. Was a good game and Worthing earned their point. A great advert for Sussex football. Packed ground and plenty of passion off and on the pitch. A good day and a fair result

I’m no JackAlbion but I’ve been to 60+ grounds between Brighton and Worthing and whilst I’ve seen shit service at a lot of games but this was another level.

3500 tickets sold, two people checking tickets to get in. Insane.
Why don’t people just go to the pub? Surely they can go a couple of hours without a pint.

A case of sunk cost fallacy I guess is the answer to the overarching question.

We got in to the ground at 14:30. It’s me, and two mates who are Worthing fans now but are originally ‘Big 6’ plastics. We join the queue and at 14:45 I say it’s taking too long so let’s f*ck it off. They want to get a pint though and I don’t want to lose them.

In hindsight I was right, but it’s hard to convince people the 20 minutes they’ve queued is for nothing. A competent club doesn’t let it get to that point though.

A competent club also segregates the two sets of fans when it was clear that it would be a massive fixture.

Spot on Mike. Spoken to a fair few people who were at the ground today and it seemed like the trouble came from a few 16 year olds who thought they were in Green Street, but was dealt with quickly by the stewards. Sam Beard is also was also a silly boy after the whistle went and it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a ban.

The fact of the matter is the majority of the 3600 there today behaved themselves but I imagine next time it will be segregated.

Two people for over 3k fans? Ok, I agree, that’s ridiculous. It sounds like EB really aren’t set up for promotion. They’re going to get ex league clubs like Southend next season if they go up. 3k is really a League Two crowd and those grounds have multiple entrances.

I just don’t like the idea of segregated areas below National League though. If Lewes and Whitehawk can rub along together then so should Worthing and Eastbourne.

And, yes, I’m the first to moan about away fans in the home end at the Amex but that’s because away numbers are controlled by the points system of the visiting team. I’d hate to see such controls at non league levels and it would drive some fans further down the pyramid.

Neither here nor there
I was in that beer queue and yes, it took half an hour to get served, but some of those minutes were down to the Worthing blokes in front of us letting in about six of their mates.

The crowd was two or three times what’s normally expected at Priory Lane. We all got into the ground on time and the players put on a show for us. Maybe some people didn’t get as much beer as they would have liked as quickly as they would have liked but that’s often the case at the Amex too. It’s not the biggest talking point of the afternoon IMO.

Eastbourne have been at that level before though, which makes the whole lack or organisation thing look even more strange.
