I listen quite often to the Radio Sussex commentary .
Yesterday I thought Warren Aspinall’s continual criticism of Yankubah Minteh was disgusting. Yes I agree he is a very frustrating player to watch but the way he’s singled out for criticism by Aspinall in nearly every game is uncalled for and I think he should be told about it.

Any specific examples?

I had the misfortune of listening to the Palace game for the first time in years via the website commentary... it was awful. No effort to describe what was actually happening on the pitch. Probably just as well considering.
What I used to like before was the commentator, Cantor, would describe what was happening and Warren would bring the passion. I thought they were a great pairing because of this.

Aspinal then started to get very negative which ruined it. I have not listened for years now. Does Cantor still do it?

When I was away at Hull uni in the seventies my mum used to tape match commentaries on Sussex Radio for me . Loved those. It was too far to tune in and there was no internet. Peter Brackley made me feel I was there. Listening to the current lot is boring. I haven't a clue what is going on most of the time, just chit chat. Perhaps drop to one commentator who focuses on the actual game.

WA is passionately happy when we’re playing well, loyal too. I commented yesterday that Cantor sounded like a totally different person from the past, thoroughly depressed to the core by our inept football. Even he is beat this season.

I’m sure he is. But when things were not going well, the criticism became endless, occasionally toxic, at times. I’m not asking him to sugar-coat a game like yesterday’s, criticism is often due, but there’s ways and means to do this in a more listenable way in my opinion. Maybe offer some thoughts or insight into why this is happening? That said, maybe people are okay with this style of presenting? I wasn’t so drifted away.

I still think the JC/WA team is fantastic. I do listen to them. Tons of positive stuff and admiring of FH etc.

People here who never listen, are falling for huge exaggerating in this thread.

People thrash out in many ways after an Albion defeat. Some can’t perish the thought of criticising manager/players, so target the honest messenger. Another nsc classic is it was the referee’s fault.

In a sea of very ordinary pundits, Aspinall is knowledgeable and passionate. I don't agree with everything, but he's worth listening to and that's the point of an analyst

Minteh is a promising young player but should be rotated out at times like this when his form is crap.

Baleba a bit ahead of this. Very good player, but having a dip

I think Warren is really insightful, if he’s not happy at a player there’ll be a reason. He’s usually spot on, great player as well in his younger years (he scored a really deft back header against us when he plpayed for Pompey, niggly, awkward, skilful and probably not much fun to defend against). Him and JC have great chemistry and seem to be good friends too, I enjoy listening to them and their Albion Unlimited pod.

i think we’re all a bit pissed off at the moment with the results and these guys are no different.

Just far enough away from LDC
I think anybody at the game yesterday who cares about the Albion would have been hard pushed to be articulate and positive about it.

I get being frustrated at (and not restricted to)

Bart
Wieffer
Pervis
Minteh
Hinshelwood
Pedro
O'riley
Adingra
Gomez

Minteh hasn't been so much on his game since the international break and stood out against Palace and Leicester for not being the tracking back player . He had a similar spell around Xmas

Im sure there is nothing more in Warren's comments other than a feeling that he isn't doing his best

WA says it how it is and is a great listen along with JC but that Tim bloke that does after 5 Jesus Christ !!!

who keeps banging on about Crawley’s latest loss with interviews. Precious time that could be spent instead on the huge club’s latest loss.

His frustration with the Albion recently mirrors mine exactly, if not his singling out individual players. I think it’s great that the shortcomings are being called out. I have no idea if he is but he comes across as an ardent Albion fan.
Starting to get the feeling you weren’t all
that happy about how we played yesterday lol

I don't think Minteh listens to Radio Sussex whilst he is playing.
Right, okay, I take your point.

What I will say is that radio commentators in my opinion have an even greater responsibility to their audience than any other type of pundit, because they are serving as the audience’s eyes.

I’ve known Warren to get a bee in his bonnet about players/things he doesn’t like and he does tend to dwell and repeat them, and he uses his preconceived opinions to colour his assessment of the reality on the pitch, which I think is poor form.

I agree Minteh was poor, by the way, just that purely from a journalistic viewpoint - and like or not he’s serving as a journalist - I think he lets his emotions colour his assessment too much.
