Sussex currently sitting (joint) top after 3 rounds. An excellent start on their much waited return to division one.

Hunt reportedly out for 3 months, Crocombe 2 weeks and Lamb still being badly bruised. Karvelas in for the trip to Notts? Or ask Currie if he wants to play red ball cricket again?

Farbrace said they’re looking at loan options so I’d imagine Currie playing is a non starter

How many European spots are there ?
Five or maybe six, but could be four - though seven is possible, as is nine. Only eight can be ruled out, because Glamorgan is technically in Wales. It depends if the runners up in the County Championship play more Monday games than the winners of the 20/20 Division did last year, so long as at least three of their players are also in the same squad for The Hundred, and that team only loses once in the same week that Middlesex win on the road (but not in a limited overs game, obviously). So a lot more straightforward than the football, thankfully.

So much simpler. Nice to know we can finish ninth, get relegated, and play Eymet in the Champions League (I played there once, artificial pitch and very hot). I'd quite like to play Sporting Alfas in Benidorm. Perhaps Sussex would let me do the scoring. Free wine, and my card was only out by one.

If we go and get a loan player rather than play Karvelas, what is the point in him having a red ball contract with us?

Hugely impressive. A few years ago that wouldn’t have been even a contest

He got that contract when his stock was higher. When he first joined he was briefly our main man when Robinson was with England.
He is a div two bowler but don’t rule out him rising to the challenge like Hunt.
And better karvelas than the kind of nobody we have signed on loan before.
Massive shame about Hunt, btw.

Somehow starting to pay more attention to our table-topping team...
Me too!

As someone who a few years moaned long and loud about our apparent decline towards Minor County status (good players leaving, shit ones joining and the Hundred turning the Test host counties into an elite group) I have to say this is not where I expected us to be in 2025. Very pleasantly surprised, well done to everybody who turned the ship around.
