Shoot me, but I’d at least start with Cashin. Put some trust in the guy and see how it goes. Weiffer can drop back or come on as a sub if he tires or looks lost. We paid big bucks for this guy and chased him for ages. Time to give him a start given he is one of only two CBs available and the other one is out of form. Cashin apparently has a big heart and gives his all.

If FH sets us up to defend and hit on the break with pace it MIGHT work. High line and we’re f***ed whoever starts. Kudus will probably run half the length of the pitch before slotting in yet another goal that gives Bart “no chance” if he persists with the high line.

I'd imagine Veltman wouldn't be risked to be a starter.
And Cashin and Tasker unlikely to be PL experienced enough to be starters.
Every single member of whatever team we put out will have been unlikely to be PL experienced enough to be starters at one time. It would be good to see Tasker getting a chance (and an encouragement to other talented youngsters in the U21s who might be thinking of leaving us as they don't see a pathway here any more) - and try Rushworth in goal. Why not? If we are planning to get rid (or he's pushing to go) a few successful PL experience won't do his sale value any harm!

Back 4 of Hinsh, Veltman, Dunk, Pervis? To keep Baleba in midfield.

It’s a possibility, but as others have pointed out, just because Veltman’s an option, doesn’t mean he’s necessarily ready to start.

I’d rather see him come on in the 70th minute and finish the match than watch him start and be carried off early in the second half.

.....or, if Veltman is OK, play him at RB, Dunk, Baleba and Perv making up the back four, thus releasing Hinsh to play in midfield.

Rushworth (Verbruggen at least needs a break)
Veltman - Dunk - Baleba - Pervis
Hinsh - Ayari
March - Gomez - Mitoma
Welbeck
If Veltman and March start flagging because it's their first start after a long time out, bring on Tasker and Adingra or Minteh. Maybe bring on Cashin for the last 10-15 minutes and allow Baleba to push up into midfield. Or maybe not.........

Hopefully we will be able to bring Velts and March on for 20-30 minutes.
We will need them to play bigger roles, in the last 4 games, to be able to get us higher up the table.

half our issues against Leicester was we lost the midfield 2nd half with Baleba CB

To win this game we have to control the midfield , Baleba is crucial to that

The injuries are just so frustrating. All season its been like this. Kadioglu, Van Hecke, Webster, Veltman could arguably be our first choice back 4, and at best one of those might be fit... but more likely on the bench.
Most injuries I've seen in my many years of following the club

I would too, and think we all would. But why is it that this is the choice in front of us?
I'd rather he starts and comes off after 60/70 minutes if that's all he can give.

Didn’t FH say something about pushing bodies beyond normal boundaries/limits in his GQ piece ?!? If so, it might explain why so many of our players are royally screwed… 🤔

Turns out if you push people beyond their limits too often, well, they get injured 🤕

Nicely playing up to the mad German sports scientist stereotype.

Its crazy. These past couple of seasons have been terrible for injuries. No wonder our form has been up and down. We havent been able to maintain a settled 11. Kadioglu, Pervis, Dunk, Van Hecke, Webster, Veltman, Igor and Lamptey have all had numerous weeks out, and in some cases months. Its why I cant complain too much when results dont go our way. You take that many players away from any defence in the league and they will be leaking goals every week.

I don't think Veltman will start, a bit like Solly he'll be a great option to bring on at some point 2nd half.

I'm torn on the CB problem.
On one hand we missed Baleba in midfield v Leicester, my biggest critism that day of FH wasn't that he started him at CB but that he left him there. Vardy isn't exactly quick anymore, they were not really bothering us through the middle all game.
On the other hand West Ham do have pace up front, so we probably need Baleba there on Saturday now (if I'm honest I'm more worried right now about our other CB than I am Baleba....)
We have more options to cover CM than we do CB. So I 'think' I'd move Baleba to CB and play Wieffer and Ayari CM with MOR in the 10.

Once again though - why the feck did we spend £10m on Cashin? You can't coach pace.

But you can coach positional sense, especially by employing a system that caters for our weaknesses…

LOL

Hang on, no, no I can’t believe I suggested we cater for our defensive deficiencies by being pragmatic… I’d never make a PL coach that’s for sure.

Absentees....
JPVH - concussion protocol, back Newcastle
Lamptey, Igor - training, but too early
Pedro - back Liverpool (H) - 3 match ban.
Rutter/Webster - out for season
Ferdi / Milner - "maybe" before end of season or at least thats what FAB said the other day in case you're doubtful. .

What about Kadıoğlu? Liverpool match during Monday night lap of honour with many not staying.

I'd rather he starts and comes off after 60/70 minutes if that's all he can give.

Well, one of my general feelings about Fab, is that he can sometimes hesitate to make substitutions quickly.

I fear a scenario where a delayed substitution leads to another period on the sidelines.

What you mean like to not play an insanely high line when all your defenders are lacking pace? Yeah, far too boring an idea, don't give up your day job.

Lamptey is also an “option”

So I think it’s a back line of

Wieffer, Veltman, Dunk, Estupinan
Baleba, Hinshelwood
Minteh, O Riley Mitoma
Welbeck

Subs: Steele, Cashin, Lamptey, Tasker, Ayari, Gomez, March , Adingra, Gruda,

I promised to be positive rest of the season and this might sound a bit negative, but this is a genuine question:

Does "be patient in possession" mean "secure possession, let the opposition defence organise and the slowly pass the ball sideways trying to overload a small section of the final third / last 20m, try to get the ball to a player in an area were it might be more probable to score from and then hope someone in that area has a magic moment to put the ball in the back of the net"?

Quite often that seems to be the "modus operandi" even if we have have 3-v-2 or 4-v-3 we stop the attack and wait for everyone to get in and then start slowly going up the pitch. My intuition (and maybe some statistican can confirm or debunk this) is that you get a better chance scoring from quick attack or counter attack than slowly building up (City might be an exeption to this although I remeber them scoring against us from counters and/or from quick play from the back).
