How can anyone not like Roy Keane? Personally, I love a panel with a loose cannon like him or - to a lesser extent - Souness.

I also really like Ally McCoist. Underneath that jovial exterior he has real football knowledge. He pre-empted the manner of Scotland conceding their first goal vs Germany a minute or so before it happened.

I like Lineker and Shearer, I thought Fabregas was very good too. As for Micah Richards, his giggling Man City-one club one-trick pony act s wearing thin. There are better pundits out there.

I used to like the Monday Night Football Club on R5. I gave up once Micah’s giggling morphed into disruptive interrupting of the others as they’re saying interesting stuff, sadly they allow this to happen for the zzzzz craic.

McCoist is quality. So positive and he calmly reflects what’s panning out to his knowledgeable eye.

Keane the honest assassin is brilliant. A winner, he speaks from a wealth of experience.

Micah … a punditry career built on giggling to fill the bits where he should be giving insights, and an incredibly limited repertoire of unfunny anecdotes such as he was a lazy trainer.
Must be a bit embarrassing for him when they put the captions up for England performances and goals when he's sat next to Shearer and Lineker.

ITV started this nonsense in the 90’s. Live CL football from the San Siro or Camp Nou, the pitch-side expert was ….. Robbie Earle. CV comprising Stoke, the thuggish Crazy Gang and 8 Jamaica caps.

Micah Richard’s is absolutely sodding awful… it actually hurts seeing him sat there alongside some superb ex players, both male and female … he wasn’t a great footballer… really bang average… as a pundit he’s like a thinks he’s funny overweight sixth form kid, with WAY too much confidence… he’s a total and utter dick head, and that’s being polite… that laugh would make me walk off set and never return.

If we’re wanting fairly average former footballers who are actually superb pundits then look no further than Nedum Onuoha - Insightful, informative, well read researched and often spot on… but no, we get Micah Richard’s, like a demented muppet long bereft of anyone actually pulling the strings, actually quite terrifying.

Lineker has been in the position too long. About time the Beeb got someone in less Grey and dull.
That would send the anti-woke brigade into an absolute frenzy. How would they square off their hatred of a snowflake lefty like Lineker with the fact that he's been removed to suit the "younger, diverse wOkE aGeNdA"?

Lineker has become an aged self parody with a questionable moral compass. His main problem is he thinks he’s intelligent…

All deserve to be binned immediately. Nauseous nonsense, little personal jokes that no one else is party to. Jeez, they are absolutely awful. and just talk rubbish.

Bet they are being paid a fortune for the month.

Get them out!

Contrast Mark Chapman, Sam Matterface, Clive Tyldesley, Cesc Fabregas and the real start Ally McCoist. All excellent IMHO.

What makes a good pundit? Opinions differ. It's very subjective, but I would suggest a certain ease in front of the camera goes down well, like Des Lynam.

First, the presenters. Lineker is OK and inoffensive, but nothing more than that. Chapman and Laura Woods are in a different league. Both draw you in and offer a personal touch. The humour is, somehow, slightly more genuine - perhaps spontaneous - than Lineker's.

Now the pundits. Criteria, for me anyway: experience is key. Nothing else matters.

Keane, good value, aided by the simmering aggression. OK, maybe, that's just me.
Gary Neville. I'm afraid he's actually rather good.
Carragher. Always worth a slot when Neville is on. They bounce off each other.
Ian Wright. First name on the teamsheet.
McCoist. One of the best.
Micah Richards. Out.
Joe Cole. Out.
Ashley Cole. Out. Out.
Shearer. Past the sell by date.

The very best pundit, based on seeing him just once? Chris Hughton.

The bbc acoustics are terrible but to call M a star borders
They're genuinely really good. At least someone who actually knows the laws and can speak immediately to their application.
I’m still not convinced with the decision re the forward who was booked for being brought down by the goalie last night. She made up some kind of rule I’ve never heard of.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
I must add that everyone's favourite Gary looked like he didn't get the dress code the other night in his armchair sweater, the other three were smart for the big occasion. It looked like he couldn't care less. Ian wright was still on form the other night with Gary Neville. The match commentators seem to be part time as they hardly mention names of the players, old boys like me need to know who they are, we don't all have 72 inch TVs. It also makes the game less interesting, don't they want to aspire to be a Motson?
Maybe the clothing sponsorship didn't cover that bit

Cheshire Cat

Hear bloody hear!
Mark Chapman is soooooooo much better than jug ears. He connects and engages rather than look at his script for the next producer's question.
Anyone calling themselves "Chappers" needs to be shifted out of his smugness zone FAST.

And I’m sitting here appreciating his intelligent moral compass! Each to his own.
