International football is practically a separate sport to Club football, it's so different.
I'd never want Southgate for Brighton and I don't think he'd make a good club manager, but overall he's done an excellent job with England over his tenure.

He’s done well with certain parts of the job, he’s a great communicator, for example, but tactically he’s rather challenged compres to some of his peers.
This will go round and round, he has failed as a manager, never won a thing. Tactically living in the 90's. A better manager would have won something with England. The amount of talent available is easily the best ever. At a time where other top countries are bereft. We have scraped through again playing dirge.
Agree. He’s benefited from easy groups and less challenging paths to the final/semi-finals.
Of course you can only beat what’s in front of you, but when he’s played against a manager, who can flex their tactics, unfortunately he is limited.
Great communicator though and has achieved a ‘happy’ camp, probably for the first time since Venables, and after the shambles left by Capello and Hodgson, has done well.
However, the bottom line is trophies. I like to think both Robson and Venables would have won something in Southgate’s position, possibly Greenwood too.

Not sure that's the right question though. International football is very different to club football.
Probably why most people would say Southgate wasn't great at club level but has been very successful at International level.
Not a massive crossover between successful club managers and successful international managers in recent times.

Which means that although I like Potter (as a manager) I'm not sure he's the right fit for England.
