Southgate has been our best manager in 25 years. He's got the players playing for each other and we've progressed. But there's nothing more he can offer and it's time for him to go.

We actually have a good team and other teams are less good than they were before.
Or they should be, going by how they play for their clubs. Any success is in spite of Southgate and I'll die on that hill. Great job eroding the division, awful job of literally anything else. Gets outmanaged in a final by some nobody who last managed Atletico Bilbao's reserve side before the Spanish youth sides. f***ing clown. As I've said before, everyone at the FA that allowed him to be appointed, let alone stay in charge as manager for so long, needs sacking.
Good post.

Southgate is a decent bloke and man manager but dreadful football coach.

I think the best available alternative to Southgate is Pochettino. That disparate Chelsea squad was a bit like an international squad in some ways and he got them playing good football by the end of the season.

He is a savvy yet attacking coach, he knows how to get the best out of Kane, Palmer came of age under him too.

I don't think he's that bad with his feet
He takes SO F**KING LONG TO DECIDE WHERE TO PASS IT that it’s often either an underhit, but safe five yarder or overhit long ball that lands in touch or the centre back’s head.

He’s not asked to play out intelligently at Everton so it’s not a surprise.

He's a part of the coaching staff, isn't he? Can do the mental stuff (because he dealt with overcoming it as a player I guess) but has literally no idea beyond that. Whichever prick thought he would step up as a manager in the first place needs deleting from our FA.

Only one win against decent opposition at Tournaments against the Dutch at this years championships (Germany were already falling into chaos when we played them 3 years ago having already failed to qualify from their group at the previous World cup & next). Struggled by and large against teams we should be beating with the attacking tallent we have had at his disposal.
I wouldn't call the Dutch decent, there were at least 4 other teams much better then them in the tournament.

I imagine if Potter was his manager, he could do it.

Well obviously Dyche isn't going to want someone in his team playing football, but that doesn't mean Pickford couldn't do it.

Let's hope we get the chance to find out.

His tournament record and overall win percentage is better than any other England manager apart from Ramsey who was in charge for something like 12 games.

We should have won the Wembley final for sure, but surely you’re not claiming we’ve got better players than France, Argentina and Spain?

I 100% think our squad is stronger than any of those teams. If that makes me delusional or something, fair enough, but the club versions of our players should beat any team in the world.

Fair enough. I don’t so we’ll just have to disagree.

There's a lot to be disappointed about. One small theme. Cucurella has a ricket in him - you need to put him under pressure to cause it. But we only went at him once (and scored from it). Thats why Williams had space to score & cucurella assisted the winner. It's poor planning or poor execution

So either southgate isn't good enough or our players aren't.

I know I think it's the former (as he kept picking kane too)

The stats and comments around him reaching 2 tournaments paper over the truth. The quality of other teams is the worst if has been for many years, he has been lucky with the fixtures. I'm sure it would've already "come home", had a coach been in place that could get the best our of our the exceptional attacking players we have at our disposal.
We went back to low block after the equaliser despite having shown we are better on the front foot.
He has failed us and needs to move on, and allow someone new to "bring it home" with the talent we have.
Please p*ss off now Gareth.

If he stays as the FA apparently want him to, England fans have less than 2 months until their next exciting episode of Southgate football.

It's Ireland away on 7th September, then Finland at Wembley on 10th September in Nations League Group B2!!

This is the competition that was supposed to replace pointless friendlies for big footballing nations as they prepare for major tournaments.

Of course, it doesn't help when you've been relegated.

GS needs to go, it’s time.

Potter is odds on to replace him presumably - maybe smug Eddie or Poch are in the running too.

However, If I had been asked prior to ‘that Leeds match’, if I thought Potter was shoe in for England - well at that time, I’d have said, absolutely, first the Us then the seniors to take over from GS when he goes. After him telling us he needed a history lesson and telling disgruntled Chelsea fans, “the intent was there”, I’m not so sure he could cope with the stress of leading an England squad through a World cup tournament.
