I get the impression that if Rushworth was that highly rated internally then he’d have been given a chance already. After all, he wasn’t Hull’s first choice keeper, then got injured, then came back and played one or two games for them before his recall. Rushworth barely got any minutes on the Japan trip either.
He was injured in Japan, and IMO Hull was a terrible move for him, should have never had gone there.

Ah fair enough I didn’t remember him being injured. And completely agree his Hull loan was probably the worst move our loans department has arranged.

I’d love for Rushworth to be good enough for a top 10 premier league side, but I’m not hugely optimistic he’ll be the upgrade on Verbruggen some people think he’d be.

Verbruggen seems to be very good at stopping shots with his feet but not so good with his hands -- which is not great for a goalkeeper. Hopefully he will improve.

It's really frustrating that he was injured for pre season and then played a cup game at Hull, ruling him out of the Norwich game for us. Would have loved to have seen him play just to get an idea.

I just think at this point something has to change, it can’t be any worse giving Carl a run in goal in my opinion

Whatever metric they’ve used not only has him bottom, but bottom by quite some distance!
Not a big surprise to me, he saves very little and I don’t recall a great save for a long time. Pretty well every well hit shot on target ends up in the back of the net these days. Opposition keepers look much better in virtually every game annoyingly

I didn't know about the save percentage - but he was always a good GK (in the apparently old-fashioned GK role of stopping goals). The pelters he gets on here are mostly a result of falling out with de Zerbi at a time when de Zerbi could do no wrong.

Save percentage is a bit of an outdated stat. Post shot xG is a better stat for judging keepers, which has Sanchez as having saved 2 more goals than expected this season, which would put him 10th in the PL.

However, he also has 5 errors that led to a goal, which is joint first. For comparison, Bart has 4 errors leading to a goal, which is joint 2nd.

I don't want to focus on negatives after a win, but that first goal was comical. You'd be embarrassed to do that during a kickabout in the park.

Made a couple of decent saves but jesus christ. He should not be starting.

Between him and the defence, that first goal was an absolute f***ing joke. I think it’s probably the worst goal we’ve conceded in the PL. It was laughably bad, the sort of goal under 8’s teams concede.

Was it Dunk, Hinsh and Wieffer …. statues, just a yard from the ball.

Yep, all really bad but also have a look at Adingra and Estupinan at the start of the move and then Ayari and Baleba as Bowen gets onto the ball. An all round total shit show!

Defence has fallen to bits through injuries, plus Verbruggen doesn’t command at all and Estupunian’s defensive game is nowhere near the best in the PL. Hopefully the club address this in the summer. MOTD commented on the amount of goals we’re conceding in every game.

Thankfully more than made up for at the other end today.
