Why don't they just say on the commentary that we understand the first half coverage was very poor and we are sorry about that?
Because they know that a huge number of NSC users love to complain and don't want to ruin their hobby.

It's BBC Sussex and 'perform' at fault. Why should he apologise?

It's not the fault of the person in the customer service department of most shops, but they still apologise if you've bought faulty goods. As for liability, the club signed deals with perform and bbcsussex to provide a service on the club's behalf, and the club take fans' money for it. They are liable.

It's just good practice to apologise if something you have taken someone's money for isn't to their satisfaction, even if you have farmed out the grunt work, because it reflects poorly on your company to not do so, to not appreciate that the customer has had to go out of their way to rectify something for which they paid you money.

"Liable" to do what, exactly?

Looking forward to the second half with more confidence than I had at the start on the match - hope it isn't misplaced confidence

Hmmm
