Tony is a businessman, and will handle the situation in such a way. Rule 1 of managing performance is to have clear objectives. People don’t get sacked on feelings and frustration, you are either hitting your objectives or you are not.

Tony has made it clear that his biggest goal, has always been a top 10 finish for the past few years, with Europe being a “bonus”.

That’s why De Zerbi felt harsh to some (I know there was a lot more politics going on with transfers, and DZ throwing tantrums etc), but we finished 11th which was 1 place out, but ultimately he still didn’t reach his objective.

We will see the same with Fabian. If we get top 10, he will stay and get a pat on the back, if we get bottom 10 then challenging discussions will be had.

This is also why it felt like a soft objective to go for top 10, when we had promise of Europe, but this just means it’s a more serious objective that the club can manage performance against.

TLDR, Top 10 good. Bottom 10 bad

So, did any nsc’er get a chance to chat with him post match?
I would never claim to speak for Tony but I think like me & probably most fans at the game he was disappointed with some of the ref decisions including the pull down on dunk in the box near the end, which had the ref given the pen I don’t think var would have overturned it.

We have a lot of injuries especially to defenders & clearly missing Rutter but we showed very good character when down to 10 men and had the pen been given we probably would have got a point.

2 of Brentford goals were as the result of quite hefty deflections off defenders which is really bad luck as Bart looked to have the original shots covered.

I was sitting very close to Tony and the shouts of you ‘don’t know what your doing ‘ was only a minority & it was definitely aimed at the manager when he subbed off welbeck.

It’s unlikely the fans knew why he was taken off, or they wouldn’t have chanted like that.

Welbeck did look knackered & had taken a couple of hefty challenges & without Pedro for the next 3 games Danny will need to have his minutes managed, the last thing we need is another injury to him. He’s not a youngster anymore !

I was among a small group of people that attended the game with Tony & his immediate family and he was as disappointed with the result as much as all Brighton fans. Very disappointed.

There was certainly no lack of effort from the players but in very tight games like this, you sometimes need the small margins to go your way and that unfortunately didn’t happen.

Onto West Ham where hopefully we can get the 3 points and take the race to Europe down to the wire. I believe we can still do it.

Imagine Tony is disappointed at recent results just, when it looked so good 4 weeks ago. Possibe fa cup semi and a champions league spot up for grabs. Then, 2 injuries in 1 game and we're struggling again. Champions league 30+millions against Europa/conference around 5 million.!
He'll be disappointed with the injuries for 2nd successive season and I'm sure he'll be giving Fab total support in addressing that issue somehow. He'll also know we'll need our defensive frailties to improve next season if we're to remain competitive.

 Interesting points and observations. I do agree that Lady Luck has left the building regardless of other problems.
