Tony is a businessman, and will handle the situation in such a way. Rule 1 of managing performance is to have clear objectives. People don’t get sacked on feelings and frustration, you are either hitting your objectives or you are not.
Tony has made it clear that his biggest goal, has always been a top 10 finish for the past few years, with Europe being a “bonus”.
That’s why De Zerbi felt harsh to some (I know there was a lot more politics going on with transfers, and DZ throwing tantrums etc), but we finished 11th which was 1 place out, but ultimately he still didn’t reach his objective.
We will see the same with Fabian. If we get top 10, he will stay and get a pat on the back, if we get bottom 10 then challenging discussions will be had.
This is also why it felt like a soft objective to go for top 10, when we had promise of Europe, but this just means it’s a more serious objective that the club can manage performance against.
TLDR, Top 10 good. Bottom 10 bad
